Who's really behind recent Republican Legislation in WI and elsewhere?
Edited on Wed Mar-16-11 10:14 PM by Sabien
Excellent blog post from Dr. William Cronon, Professor of History @ UW-Madison

SNIP:
"The most important group, I'm pretty sure is the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)...Its goal for the past forty years has been to draft 'model bills' that conservative legislators can introduce in the 50 states. Its website claims that in each legislative cycle, its members introduce 1000 pieces of legislation based on its work, and claims that roughly 18% of these bills are enacted into law. (Among them was the controversial 2010 anti-immigrant law in Arizona.)"

It also mentions other organizations, how to understand what they do, and a list of other resources that will help you understand Recent History of American Conservatism

1. I think it is Rove and his satellite orgs
It is so coordinated among newly installed Repug governors that it STINKS.

Various subsidiary entities ala Heritage etc. are writing the grand plan with instruction/input by Rove and his minions. Then spreading the malware to state orgs along with operating scripts.

A side note - Frank Luntz (part of the Rove toadie network) met with Walker the morning after the "Koch" prank call.

9. It is SO obviously coordinated that we have to KNOW it was all planned out.
I guess they think we're stupid and haven't caught on.

They pull the wool over our eyes during the campaign and then SURPRISE once they're in control.

This is so transparent it's laughable...

2. Yes. Here's a link to the longest of several topics on ALEC that I've posted recently,
which has over a hundred replies and probably more than a hundred links there to more info, including a long Daily Kos diary with lots of information about ALEC that the diarist added to my topic:

That also links to a few shorter topics on various specific things ALEC is doing.

I'm glad Dr. Cronon is blogging about ALEC, too. The more attention given to ALEC, the better.

5. K&R- They are led from behind the scenes and manipluated to think they are a
grassroots group. THe GOP has been a tool of the very rich and corporations for many decades now...but many of their "small people" don't believe that...
