BART derailment - no service east of Pleasant Hill

(03-13) 11:42 PDT CONCORD -- BART service remains completely shut down east of Pleasant Hill due to a derailment this morning in Concord, and could remain unavailable for much of the day, officials said.

Agency spokesman Linton Johnson said the second-to-last and third-to-last cars on a 10-car, westbound train came off the tracks at about 9:30 a.m., when the train was roughly 700 feet outside Concord Station.

About 65 people were evacuated from the train, which was head to San Francisco International Airport, Johnson said. He said some had reported minor injuries to fire department paramedics.
