If I Get One More Detailed Explanation Of How A Tsunami Forms I'll Scream.......
Does anybody not know how a tsunami forms yet. In the last two days the cable news shows, the weather channel and the specials on the devastation in Japan have gone over this countless times.

And gee I really feel sorry for all those boats that got damaged in California because of the tsunami. (sarcasm) People have lost their lives, homes, loved ones, basically everything in Japan and we should be feeling sorry for rich boat owners?

And did you notice that at least 8 U.S. navy ships are making their way to Japan to help in the search & rescue, clean-up, etc - but the only ship that they mention by name is the Ronald Reagan. Hmmmmmm......

And there's so much footage of the earthquake and tsunami - but the cable news shows keep playing the same loops over and over and the commentators keep asking the same stupid questions over and over with their fake concerned voices.

Sorry - I'm just so upset at what happened to Japan and the Japanese people that I just can't take the inane silliness that goes on and on with the coverage of such an event.

2. That is the one aspect of this, that seems pretty self-explanatory...
I may not be able to measure all the forces involved, but it doesn't take a great deal of physics knowledge to realize that when the tectonic plates move so dramatically, all that water and energy has to go somewhere.

Now the more technical aspects of the nuclear emergency, I freely admit I don't quite understand. However, given all the nuclear experts seem to often be in disagreement and sometimes even contradicting each other, I guess that is to be expected.

3. Actually, I was glad to see that video from Santa Cruz.
Looking at it with Gallagher's "New Eyes" eyeglasses, I realized that an earthquake from halfway around the world did that.

And I started to get a sense of how huge that earthquake actually was. And I'm a lifelong SoCal native pushing 50, so I know from huge earthquakes.

Turn down the sound. You don't need to listen to those idiots.

Sorry, I could not resist.

It is repetitive. I can't imagine anyone near any media that hasn't heard it a brazillion times in the last day or so. It's like they think we are THAT stupid, that they have to keep telling us over and over and over again. Geez, if they are going to test us on this information, it's time to stop reviewing and give us the damn test already. Either that or move on to something else that might be on the test. I think we've got how a freaking tsunami forms down pat by now, ffs.

I could not agree more with you on this.

7. Yep,
I was listening to Al Jazeera and opened up live MSNBC commentary, so inane that after a minute I turned it off and stayed with Al Jazeera where people with real expertise, uninterrupted by lying commercials, were giving good solid commentary.

8. I am so tired of hearing the same thing over and over about Japan.
Say and show footage a few times and then don't show more until there is something new to show. I feel for that country and their people but I also live in this country and feel the need to see what is going on here. I would really like to see the coverage of Wisconsin since it pertains to so many people here in this country.

10. So turn off the noise box
You're seeing the same pictures because 1) destruction sells, 2) the full level of damage throughout the country may not known yet and 3) that's what they have tape of (I suspect most people in Japan are a tad preoccupied at the moment and have more important things to do than fully document their surroundings). Same thing happens with every disaster.

While for the majority of the West Coast the tsumani was at most a minor inconvenience, it caused a considerable amount of damage in Crescent City near the Oregon border. I don't know about rich yacht owners ("wealthy" and "Crescent City" are not words one often associates), but the local fishing fleet now has a big problem because there are no docks left for them to return to. And as another poster mentioned - we're all connected, and things that happen half a world away can and do affect us.

As for only mentioning the USS Ronald Reagan - well, the MSM does that deliberately just to annoy us here on DU.
