Florida's January unemployment at 11.9%
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 03:14 PM by William769
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida's unemployment improved slightly in January, nudging down one-tenth of a percentage point to 11.9% - nearly three percentage points above the national average.

The Agency for Workforce Innovation said Thursday that 1.1 million Floridians remain jobless as lawmakers are moving toward reducing the state unemployment benefits.

The Florida House is expected to pass a bill (HB 7005) Thursday that would reduce the time an unemployed worker would receive state benefits from 26 weeks to 20 weeks. The measure would also have to pass the Senate and be signed by Gov. Rick Scott before becoming law.
