INDIANAPOLIS - A state senator who opposes a voucher bill that would use taxpayer money to help parents send their children to private schools is warning fellow lawmakers that they could be used at a church that has stirred outrage with its demonstrations arguing God is punishing the military for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.
Republican Senator Brent Steele of Bedford has written all 149 other lawmakers to ask if they want their tax dollars used to educate children privately schooled inside Westboro Baptist Church.
The Topeka, Kan.-based church demonstrates at the funerals of soldiers, holding signs with provocative messages such as "Thank God for dead soldiers" and ''You're Going to Hell."
Telephone calls to a telephone number the church publicizes went unanswered Tuesday
