Obama Administration Pledges To Hold Gaddafi Accountable For War Crimes
Published 1, March 9, 2011 Bizarre , Politics , Society 20 Comments

In an announcement that has many civil libertarians charging hypocrisy, the Obama Administration has gone public with a commitment to hold Moammar Gaddafi accountable for war crimes. http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/africa/03/08/libya.civil.war/index.html?hpt=T1 This is the same Administration that has been denounced internationally for blocking any prosecution of Bush officials, including Bush himself, for alleged torture and war crimes. This includes the recently disclosed communications with the Spanish government revealing that the Obama Administration pressured Spain to shutdown its own war crimes inquiry.

8. And 90% of DU really wants Bush held accountable for war crimes, unless...
Obama decides not to hold him accountable. Then all of a sudden it's people like you causing sh*t that won't support the president and are helping the republicans. Shame on you.

19. I understood your post Township
and you're right. It was like being against the war in Iraq until Kerry started running as a "war president" then Democrats poo-pooed the idea of opposing the war.

22. Legitimize the ICC, sign on with the ICC, push for it when Bush is 85-90.
It's possible. Let's do it right! :D

16. What happened to 'we need to look forward'?
And in the news, as the U.S. makes that laudable commitment to the rule of law, is the war crime of the killing of yet more innocent children in Afghanistan.

Manning tried to stop these crimes. The U.S. is torturing him for his efforts.

Do they really expect any country in Africa or the Me to take them seriously, especially since in those countries they KNOW the facts about U.S. war crimes? And that is what they are saying. 'We do not want the U.S. or other foreign intervention here. We do not want to become a country brutalized like Iraq'.

Now we are hearing from the people, NOT the dictators spouting the propaganda. From all over the world.

23. Wow! Have they no Shame?
After refusing to hold anyone accountable for war crimes in 2 wars, NOW they are suddenly going to try, but only because it's a brown guy from Northern Africa that they don't like?

Don't they realize that this makes them look even more like absolute hypocrites?

Once they convene any kind of court to look at war crimes trials I absolutely hope it takes on a life of its own and can't be put back in the box again after they are conveniently done with it. I hope it then turns on them and finds itself looking at war crimes Much closer to home, whether they like it or not.

24. Group-think
They're so immersed in the D.C. group-think that they have no awareness of this hypocrisy. Nice clothes, emperor.
