Rachel Maddow Exposes Michigan Republicans Secret War On Democracy
Rachel Maddow Exposes Michigan Republicans Secret War On Democracy

Last night on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow show, Maddow explained that Michigan Republican Governor Rick Snyder is pushing a bill through that will give ultimate governmental power literally to corporations, thereby using shock doctrine tactics to create a dystopian government. Synder’s bill not only goes after collective bargaining rights, but does in fact seem to represent the Republicans’ final solution to killing democracy by enabling the replacement of elected officials, dissolving entire city’s government and handing them over to corporations. Snyder calls his “budget bill” a “shared sacrifice,” but it gifts corporations with 1.8 billion in tax breaks while hitting citizens with harder taxes, including seniors and other vulnerables, and cutting essential services to an already suffering region.

3. "total power" and "One Party Rule" is what they are thinking
If the governor or his corporate masters can erase entire towns in MI, then they can control who votes in the elections and make sure that they and their cronies are the only ones "elected." Welcome to the Soviet Union of Corporations.

5. I had to look up what "dystopian" meant and it says it all to their mindset - All the GOP Gov's:

dystopia —n. an imaginary place where everything is as bad as it can be.

Also:

a society characterized by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding.

Dystopia was coined by John Stuart Mill: from dys- + Utopia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Stuart_Mill

Mill saw women’s issues as important and began to write in favor of greater rights for women. With this, Mill can be considered one of the earliest feminists. In his article, “The Subjection of Women” (1861, published 1869), he talks about the role of women in marriage and how he felt it needed to be changed. There, Mill comments on three major facets of women’s lives that he felt are hindering them: society and gender construction, education, and marriage. Mill is also famous for being one of the earliest and strongest supporters of ever greater rights for women. His book The Subjection of Women is one of the earliest written on this subject by a male author. He felt that the 'oppression' of women was one of the few remaining relics from ancient times, a set of prejudices that severely impeded the progress of humanity.<17>

.......

May I add as bad as it can be for those who are "below" their thumbs - it is a good as it gets for them!

4. Best . Rachel . Ever . !
She's the first to expose the Michigan fight.

Same as the Wisconsin fight.

Except Snyder plans a much quicker death for unions than Assclown Walker.

The instrument of death? Emergency Financial Managers.

Fast, sneaky, and ... the unions die one at a time.

No single, big, bloody massacre with a ton of media coverage.

Lotsa small ones instead, attracting little attention.

Thank you, Rachel! I don't want my state turning into North Mississippi.

16. Even Mississippi doesn't have those provisions...
...but with the political leaders they have in place, they will race at breakneck speed to implement the same thing in their state.

Facebook pages, message boards, e-mails to friends....Make it viral

Rachael Maddow really told it straight, and addressed what the MSM is conveniently either ignoring or is too lame to notice.

14. If Govenor Granholm had raised taxes on the people... repubs would
Edited on Wed Mar-09-11 02:23 PM by Jokinomx
have raised HOLY HELL! They did anyway...each time the budget came around. I find their silence absolutely astounding, considering what Snyder is proposing.

For 8 years Gov. Granholm cut taxes and waste from our government. She consolidated departments and slashed spending without hurting education or the poor. Yet every year the republicans would rail on her for how she was dealing with the deficits.

She personally came to my hometown several times to try to negotiate tens of millions of tax cuts to keep Eletrolux from moving to Mexico. Electrolux said they would need 80 million in incentives to stay... so Granholm, the "UNIONS" and city managers did it... they came up with 75 million and would give them the land and build the facility. Electrolux didn't think they could do it. But they did. They moved anyway. They had no intentions of staying here in the first place.

Now they are in Warez ..the murder capital of the world. A friend of mine transferred there and was threatened by locals and informed he was not welcome, that he and his family would be at risk.

It didn't take him long to say See Ya... and moved back.

Lastly... Electrolux never ever lost money while operating their plant here. They were a profitable part of their corporation. It's just they didn't make enough profit.

So 3000 decent paying jobs were lost in a town of 9,000.

So Snyder saying that lowering taxes on corporations will bring them back... I don't think so. American's can't compete with $2.00 a day wages.

That is why tariffs were in place for most of our countries existence. They kept American jobs in America...

In the 1960s, 90% of what Americans bought was American made. Why.. because tariffs kept the trade fair between countries. Reagan ...started the deregulation... and Clinton signed the NAFTA bill.. the rest is history as American jobs rushed to 3rd world countries.

Lastly, there is a faction of the RW that is deathly afraid of a one world government... and yet ..free trade has brought us closer to a one world government than ever before.

Peace.

17. Snyder also wants the movie industry out of MI
Edited on Wed Mar-09-11 02:33 PM by louis-t
4,000 jobs which he keeps saying are "temporary", tens of millions spent already in the state. His excuse is "we can't afford it". Ernst & Young says for every dollar the state spends on movie incentives, 6 dollars come into the state. He says we're just "enamored" of having movie stars come here. How do repugs think this will help repugs? We may be a nation of sheep, but this can't end well for repugs. Looks like another 2 generations of them in the minority. What, they learned NOTHING from the McCarthy era?

They've given up any pretense of loyalty to democracy. They want to sell us all to the corporations and industrialists. Remember: if you're not an owner, you're a parasite!! :argh:
