Can you feel it? Really, can you?
for the first time since oh the 1990s we the people are fighting back? We are seeing an honest to goodness PEOPLE'S MOVEMENT... that is what you are seeing rising.

Can you feel it? This is an unexpected TREND. it was there all along, and we all asked WHEN? Can you feel it?

This is expanding... to even RIGHT TO WORK states, like TN... can you feel it?

Good... get ready for more fights. The Rs are not going to just roll over and go away ok.

5. Let's hope it carries over to the voting booth.
It doesn't mean much if the voters keep electing these a-holes.

1932 comes to mind, we are at a very similar moment though.

15. Especially if the gas prices keep going up along with food prices.
Things are finally touching the real lives of the people and they are opening their eyes. The rethugs are pushing it because they read the last election wrong. They think they won because this is what the people want. They won by default. Not enough of us got out to vote and independents did not do their homework.

If we can keep this up until the weather is better I think these demonstrations are going to get really big. They made a real mistake challenging the middle class and the group of people most likely to have taken part in the 60-80s demonstrations. We remember what people power is.

16. Actually oil and food are not just specuation
we are at peak oil, beyond it, and global weather change, as the science predicted, is lowering food production.

We are at a Matlhusian moment.

Nevertheless the people will blame people, Me time to get alternate energy and all that. In the next five years... globalization will be over. IT REQUIRES cheap oil. There ain;t no cheap oil left.

On the short term though that will lead to a revolt here.

18. I agree totally. I am hoping that we are at least able to function enough
to be able to situate ourselves a little better. I guess I am hoping there is not a total collapse. Probably a fantasy though. In times like this it is entirely too possible to love too much. To want to save everyone - even when they do not want to listen.

19. I do expect a population collapse
the US can still be self sufficient, the production has not fully moved north.

But the population crash will... make the black death (one out of three in Europe died) look like a walk in the proverbial park. If the numbers are right. the world cannot support more than a billion... we are at 7.5 billion. The US may see a crash of about 100 million.

27. Yes, this has of course already started in other parts of the world.
In my family it is my handicapped daughter who is alive only because of meds and myself (diabetes) that will go first. But I have lived a good life and my little lady was expected to go around the age of 30 and she has gotten 25 extra years and counting. When I was younger I lived in a world that did not expect to live to their 80-90s and it was not so bad - I don't think we were so afraid of death as we are now. Blind faith is a help in times like that. So now we wait to see what will come or if the powers that be will find yet another way of disguising the truth for a while.

21. Malthusian moment?
I'd better get my lifeboat ready...

Whatever happened to abundance theory?

(I never liked Malthus, sorry)

call me crazy but I tend to believe Huber & Mills more, on this issue, despite their political leanings.

24. So you think food production can go in an ever growing curve?
I may not like Malthus in some respects, but there is a real limit on food production, We overcame the natural limits using insane amount of oil. That is going away.

28. That just implies more human and animal power.

More people on the land.

Not to mention, a society dedicated the rational production of use value instead of the irrational production of commodities will do a much better job of meeting human need.

26. It IS making a difference.........
I'm an old news junkie, but I haven't seen a network news airing in a couple of years and haven't watched anything REGULARLY in decades. I watched MSNBC a fair amount until they dumped KO, but since then I haven't even watched them much.

I get my fact mostly from DU's late breaking news and my opinion/discussion from the GD page almost exclusively now.

And I haven't missed the other outlets at all.
