How tired are you of the so-called "I'm a hard working, self-made man" meme being used as a bludgeon by conservatives?
You can't visit a right wing forum without someone trotting out the old saw about how they would like to post more but they have to get to work, unlike the lazy, welfare check cashing liberal slackers who haven't done an honest day's work in their lives.
From what I remember it started back in the 60's, where "hardhats" were the opposite of "hippies". Somehow, having a social conscience got conflated with the idea that you didn't actually work for a living; that the honest hard-working man had an automatic "moral superiority" over someone who paid attention, and spoke up for what was right.
It seems to me that the right wing can't "own" the hard working man at the same time that conservative leaders are doing their best to destroy workers and the work environment in the USA.
So, can we take the hard working man and woman back?
