sthmus, an alternative newsweekly in Madison, WI, announced on Friday that it has filed a lawsuit against Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker under that state's Open Records Law.

On February 17, Walker claimed to have received more than 8000 emails on his budget repair bill, with the majority urging him to "stay firm." The next day, he upped the figure to 19,000. Isthmus presented Walker with a request to see those emails, first by hand-delivered letter and the next week by emails to Walker's spokesperson and his legal counsel.

The Wisconsin Associated Press, which is also participating in the lawsuit, filed similar requests at about the same time. Its second email broadened the request to include "all emails the governor has received that mention the budget repair bill."

1. His history at Maquette U makes us wonder if he hasn't 'done it again'
I'm betting he claims they were all flushed and are lost forever.

From there it will be interesting to see where the courts go.

2. LOL
“Scott Walker attended Marquette University but was expelled for cheating. His GPA was a 2.3 and as someone who hasn't graduated college he would not be qualified to be a teacher.”

4. Who knows with ReTHUGS
Check out this prescient article from last year
http://www.onewisconsinnow.org/blog/2010/08/walker-returns-to-marquette-university-gets-another-incomplete.html
<snip>
Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, who left Marquette University without a degree for reasons yet to be revealed, returned to his almost-mater and the results seem to be the same as when he was a student: incomplete.

Walker was there to take part in a debate with former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann, but unfortunately, Walker flat-out refused to address the main issue which had dogged him - how will he pay for nearly $3 billion in proposed tax cuts, tax shifts and tax loopholes in the midst of state's looming $2.5 billion deficit.

Keep in mind that Walker offered a blistering assault on the state's historic BadgerCare program, which provides access to health care coverage to children, expectant mothers and uninsured working Wisconsinites. This critical investment, begun under Tommy! Thompson is a model for the nation and has allowed Wisconsin to cover a higher percentage of its citizens than almost every other state in the nation.

6. He 'resigned' shortly after losing 80%-20% in student election
and admitting that he had engaged in campaign practices for student government that were unethical.

One of the things that was apparently admitted to was he and his buddies attempted to interfere with the distribution of a student newspaper that ran an article critical of him.

Marquette hasn't commented on expulsion and Walker hasn't admitted it.

25 years later Walker is still capable of creating doubt about his ethics.

5. Can you sue him for not producing non-existent emails?

7. I am not at all sure that Walker and the WI email system are as capable
of fending off forensic technicians as was Rove and the George Bush Whitehouse.

8. The people in charge of erasing those emails…
Wouldn't they be, like, uh, state employees? I wonder how loyal they are to the Big Cheese. Ya think maybe even ONE of them might have walked out with a portable hard drive?

9. It is definitely a curiosity to consider.
I have no idea where loyalties in the various dept's lie.

And there is always the issue of professional ethics.

10. My point is that I'm skeptical that all of those supportive emails actually exist.
He has no reason to hide them if they really exist. I don't think they do.

If they don't exist then he either admits that, or he breaks the law by refusing to produce them.
