Yesterday thousands of students and workers took action for SLAP's national day of action across the country. Reports are still coming in about the exciting actions, rallies, marches and signs of solidarity. The student voice was made clear: stop the attacks on the public sector, stop the privatization, and support working families.

Over 30 actions took place in 15 states and Washington, D.C. March 2nd was a huge success in bringing students and workers together to fight for the public sector. A quick glance at some of the actions display how interconnected we are in these struggles:

* San Francisco - Workers and students marched over 2 miles in the rain chanting cries for workers rights, and ended at a community college for a rally that featured hundreds of participants

* Orlando - Students at University of Central Florida put together a banner that read "UCF supports Labor" that over 500 students signed while collecting enough donations from other students to buy 4 extra large pizzas, soda, and tip for protesters in Madison, all while the chant "Everywhere we go, people want to know, who we are, we are the union, mighty mighty union" was being chanted

* Amherst - Hundreds of students and workers outside the student union to rally against attacks on the public sector, workers, and students that featured speeches from union leaders, workers and students

* Olympia - students fought against tuition hikes and cuts to financial aid, which are pricing students out of higher education

What is important to remember is that yesterday was just the beginning. SLAP, United States Student Association and Jobs with Justice members are fighting for working class families everyday, and it didn't stop just because today was March 3rd. We will be building off of this momentum and later this month there will be state-wide days of action in both Ohio and Indiana that SLAP, USSA, and JwJ are active in. We will not sit by as students and workers are under attack. Check in at SLAP's facebook and twitter to get up-to-date information!

In Solidarity,

Chris Hicks
National Student Labor Action Project Coordinator
