The Judge said the DoA had until March 8th to comply to his order.

From http://twitter.com/ACLUMadison

ACLUMadison: Judge says DOA must return to open Capitol in next 48 hours (or by March 8) and that means as open as it was in January.

25. You'd think so from the way the news is framing it.
The judge's ruling was in the plaintiff's (the protestors) favor - but all the headlines read "Judge orders activists to vacate Wisconsin capitol"

:eyes:

The transcript of the Judge's ruling is great actually - commends the protesters and the police and quote:

Those people were exercising important, unique, constitutional right. There should be no disrespect toward demonstrators.
Says the word "demonstrators" should not be used with contempt. People wanting access were law abiding, hard working people.

26. WTF? You cannot be serious. Hitler was notoriously declasse and. as just one example,
had a serious problem with flatulence in public settings. He offended the sensibilities of one upperclass German Junker woman with a fart he laid at a state function, so much that she exclaimed about it at the time. I can't track down the source right now but it exists in one of the legit biographies of Hitler or histories of the Third Reich, if memory serves.

As bad as Walker indisputably is, he is not as bad as Hitler. At least not yet.

Edited on Fri Mar-04-11 06:24 PM by Rozlee
Meh. A stretch. Now, the guys he takes his marching orders from, the KKKoch brothers, are another matter altogether. Those guys are applying a scorched earth policy to the working class in order to achieve their agenda in transferring more wealth from them to their own already overflowing coffers. Would they ever put babies in ovens to get their way? They're already lobbying politicians to cut programs like Medicaid that lowered child mortality rates by 20% within the first two years of it's inception and other aid for poor children. Seven degrees of Kevin Bacon to me can be split into a new category of two degrees of Hitler.

23. UPDATE
MADISON, Wis. — About 50 pro-union protesters peacefully left the state Capitol late Thursday after a judge ruled they could no longer spend the night to show their opposition to Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to eliminate nearly all collective bargaining rights for public workers.

The judge also ruled the state had violated the public's free speech and assembly rights by restricting access to the building.

The protesters demanded to see a written copy of the order before they would go. University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Chief Susan Riseling read the order to the crowd, eliciting cheers when she read the judge's determination that the state had unconstitutionally restricted access to the building.

"We won this battle," said former Attorney General Peggy Lautenschlager, who represented unions that had challenged the state's decision to limit building access. But she also told the demonstrators they needed to leave.

28. I was in Madison today joining the protest.
It was a sickening feeling being locked out of the Capital with a ring of cops around the building. I was having 60's flashbacks and feeling lots of anger. We were there shouting and talking for four hours (it was really cold until the crowds showed up and we kept each other warm).

After people got off of work this evening, the crowd grew immensely. We all (about 1500 of us) walked down to the far end of State Street and formed/joined a scheduled New Orleans style funeral parade with musicians, umbrellas and costumes. The crowd had surged to 10,000 by 5 p.m. when the parade started. We marched back up State Street and around the Capital twice, mourning the death of collective bargaining, workers rights, our right to enter our own Capital, etc., complete with pall bearers and caskets! Shortly after we congregated out front for another rally. We were told they were removing the protesters from inside and we would be permitted to enter the building again at 8 a.m. tomorrow. We'll see.

Not one word about this huge parade on our 10 o'clock news, nothing.

I'm glad we made it today. We also ate at Ians Pizza on State and thanked them for all they've done. Bought some t-shirts too! They're expecting a huge crowd in Madison this week-end. I think we'll stick to going during the week--the parking is better.

54. That is good news. It does occur to me that one of the reasons people
in the US do not act out their anger so easily is that we still believe that the courts will do something to fix the situation. When that trust is betrayed THEN the people will act. The teachers are leading the way with peaceful demonstrations.
