http://www.nbc40.net/view_story.php?id=16642Thousands of police and firefighters rallied outside the Statehouse in Trenton to send a message loud and clear. They're rallying against staff cuts and proposals to change collective bargaining and to promote public safety.
Thousands of off duty police and firefighters from across the state gathered as one to let their unified voice be heard.
They're saying enough is enough, protesting budget cuts that led to public safety layoffs, forced others into retirement and left numerous positions unfilled, leaving their ranks at unsafe operating levels.
The state PBA president says there are 3,400 less officers on the street than there were a year ago today. "We didn't cause the problem, the Governor is coming in here with some kind of agenda just to basically union bust and trying to balance the budget on our backs. We didn't do anything wrong, we just want to come to work, save if we can, do our job to protect citizens," explained Jim Smith, Ocean City Fire Captain.video
