Teachers, unions rally against firings
The mayor says he supports the teachers' right to speak their minds, but says his mind is made up.

"People will have their voices heard, however my resolve has not changed," Mayor Taveras told Eyewitness News Wednesday.

The president of the Providence teachers' union, Steve Smith, insists the mayor's actions are unnecessary and illegal.

"He's done more to demoralize and disrespect teachers in 30 days than I think anyone could possibly do in the history of teaching," says Smith.
