Tenn. bill would make following Shariah a felony
So this is how it's going to be. Illegal to be a Muslim. Who's next?

"Tennessee is considering making it a felony to follow some versions of the Islamic code known as Shariah, the most severe measure yet put forth by a national movement whose members believe extremist Muslims want Shariah to supersede the Constitution."

"This is an anti-Muslim bill that makes it illegal to be a Muslim in the state of Tennessee," said Remziya Suleyman, policy coordinator for the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition.

The bill's sponsor, Republican Sen. Bill Ketron of Murfreesboro, said the proposal exempts the peaceful practice of Islam but seeks to condemn those "who take Shariah law to the other extreme." He said it would give state and local law enforcement officials "a powerful counterterrorism tool."

Notice they plan to use this law as a "powerful anti-terrorism tool". Yeah there are some fucking tools here alright.

So what happens when the next boogyman is a Jew? Or a Buddhist? Or a Hindu? This is fucking nuts.

6. I live in TN
If they did that, they'd get rid of about 75% of the people here.

2. Interesting:
"The legislation simply states that Shariah that follows the law of jihad, which calls for the violent overthrow of the Tennessee and U.S. government"

Well, I guess that means no more cries of "the south will rise again" in Tennessee? ;)

8. I didn't realize that Tennessee had mullahs for judges
If they'd just get rid of the mullahs, then POOF, no Sharia law.

15. Rather pointless.

Any excesses in Sharia that contradicts the regular law will alreaddy be criminal, anything other than that isn't anyone else's business IMPO. Wouldn't this be considered a violation of the state/religion separation?

16. Sen. Ketron seems to lack even the most basic understanding of law...
For instance, some forms of sharia law promote the idea that there is no such thing as rape within the concept of marriage.

What should be made illegal is rape, not the religious beliefs that promote it. At some point, you have to realize that you can't enforce thought crimes.
