Madoff says hiding his scam was a 'nightmare,' calls victims 'greedy': 'I am a good person'

Bernie Madoff, the reviled Ponzi schemer who ruined so many people, thinks he's the one you should feel sorry for.

Turns out, keeping the whole billion-dollar scheme secret from his family was a major burden.

"It was a nightmare for me," he said. "Even the regulators felt sorry for me...They said, 'How did you live with this? Not being able to tell anybody?'"

In a series of phone interviews with New York magazine, Madoff repeatedly said he wasn't trying to justify what he did - and then he repeatedly tried to justify what he did.

5. Down here at least when his Palm Beach "victims" cry and moan, most
people laugh at them. They were greedy and knew what was going on but took the money anyway. Poor Bernie....LOL.

8. How dare working class people arrest him and lock him up!
Dam that working class...always interfering with the ruling classes agendas! We should let him out immediately with a full apology and a promise never to arrest him again. The horror! The shame!

9. On the plus side for Bernie
While the poor in NYC freeze in unheated apartments, Bernie was at least
able to experience his "nightmare" in his Palm Beach vacation house:

11. It's easy to see how he can believe that...
What never gets mentioned in these stories is just how irredeemably rotten the culture is on Wall Street, and has been since the start...I think Madoff knows deep down there should be hundreds of other schemers sharing a cell with him...

And I do believe him when he says there was an air of "The less I know, the better" -complicity from regulators, colleagues, partners and many, if not most of his investors...
