I request a DU Fund Drive to feed the Wisconsin Protestors
Though many of us cannot physically be among the great fight for workers rights, can we do something to support those who are?
Can we perhaps create a 'Feed the Freedom Fighters' fund drive, here at DU?

Is there an organization in Madison that can deliver burgers& fries, pizza, etc to those who stand hourly, daily in the cold? Perhaps there are NON-CORPORATE owned diners somewhere in the city who stand in support of those who protest, who would gladly provide the labor force if we at DU gave them the funds to make this happen.
Can we offer something like this?

This is just an idea born from the respect i have for the Wisconsin protests and the strong desire to assist them in some way.
Anything to keep their spirits strong and realize that support for their cause is only growing in numbers.

Any ideas?
Any way to make this happen?

Thank You DU

1. Seconded!
I'd like to see that, or something like it, including the Wisconsin 14. They're gonna need to cover their expenses before too much longer. It will enable them to keep the calcium in their backbones if they know they don't necessarily HAVE TO rush back to pick up that paycheck.

And I'd be happy to contribute.

9. This is great. Perhaps their families are in need also.
May they be blessed & for their heroism in the name of democracy.

2. Some may even need warm clothing.

Some of the donations could be used for heavy socks, gloves, warm headgear and the like.
The very least I could do would be to send a few bucks their way.

Good idea BTW.

5. With all due respect...
...and that is a fine idea, but it would appear as though you have not been paying attention!

Ian's Pizza got a donation from some people in Egypt, in order to feed the protesters.
Hundreds of others have been feeding them as as well.
This has been going on for a while...

8. Yes the generosity is all good & all for a great cause but
my intention is to do something through DU. By the replies it is clear that there are DU members who would also like to lend assistance in some way.
Food is one idea and yes, suggestions of warm clothing, or assistance to the 14 members or their families waiting at home, who chose to stand with their people, are great ideas from fellow DUers.
DU member's support & desire to lend funds are ready & waiting for a way to be delivered.

A fund Drive through DU is simply a way to get it there.

12. And the Wisconsin 14 may need reinforcements soon, too.
If that bastard tyrant walker holds their paychecks hostage, we need a way around that so they can stay strong. If just ONE of them caves because he/she can't afford to continue forgoing salaries, that's the ball game, folks.

13. I think a fund drive through DU is a great idea!.....
Maybe you could ask Skinner if that would be possible. I especially like the idea of including the fabulous 14 and their families. Skinner might like this idea too because it would be good PR for DU. See if you can make it happen!!!

And I would still like to see DU do a fund drive to be distributed to the groups in your post.

In the name of Democratic Underground dot com
This will do for now, however.
Thanks
