23. I don't know about TV (don't watch it), but the paper was all about the pro-union group.
Good coverage, too. Much more in print than they put online.

2. I can add Topeka, Kansas, about 1,000 people
The local media reported a protest in Columbia, Missouri too, but not that much about size and they had to throw in that 200 tea-party people also showed up in Colunbia. Odd thar they had so many because there were only 3 in WTMW Kansas, supposedly the dark red heart of conservative country.

3. I just received an email from DFA with this info:
Success! Over 120,000 Americans took to the streets yesterday to rally against the Republican-led assault on middle class families and jobs.

That's over 70,000 people who rallied in front of the capital in Madison, Wisconsin, who were joined by over 50,000 Americans in more than 60 cities nationwide -- every single person standing up in solidarity for the America Dream and against the Republicans trying to destroy good-paying jobs.

I thought it would have been higher than that.

6. In RI I met people who just stumbled across the rally.......
a lot of them belonged to unions. Some were pissed that their own unions didn't tell them about it.

Many people don't pay attention to the news and many more don't search around the inter-tubes.

I think the unions could do a much better job of letting their own members know about rallies near them.

I was surprised that in Providence there were only hundreds instead of thousands.

10. It was higher than that. There were at least 120,000 in Madison alone. Is that an old email?

5. About 350 here in Nebraska.
http://journalstar.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/article_d65bbdda-b86c-58a6-94f6-f62dfd75093f.html

Around 350 people demonstrated on the west side of the Capitol in solidarity with workers in Wisconsin, where the governor is proposing limitations to union members' rights to bargain collectively.

Out of sight from the pro-union demonstrators, a few dozen people gathered on the Capitol's north side rallying against collective bargaining for public employees. Both groups had permits.

When the larger, pro-union event disbanded, several demonstrators walked past the counter protest. The two groups then began exchanging chants before police intervened, participants in both demonstrations said. No one was ticketed or arrested.

7. Local press said about 600 in Nashville, but....
by my ROUGH count there were 700+. The rally specifically for the teachers union (they're the ones IMMEDIATELY under attack in TN) next weekend will be bigger. I expect several thousand, but remember I'm an optimist :).

13. WA had many thousands, but media talks of competeing rallies
Teabaggers had maybe 190 and we had many thousands. The news says 2,000 and that's complete BS. Teabaggers should not have been mentioned as it was a transported token amount that was mostly astro turf.

The media sucks!!!!!!!!!

22. MoveOn is saying 50,000 nationwide (outside of Madison)
Dear MoveOn member,

Wow. Just wow. Yesterday, 50,000 people took to the streets of every single capital in America to stand with Wisconsin and demand an end to the attacks on workers and to the cuts to vital services. We're done watching the middle class get squeezed while the rich refuse to pay their fair share.

Another 40,000 people followed along online, watching our live broadcasts and liveblog. And all of this was organized, primarily by volunteers, in only 4 days.

The American Dream Movement has arrived, inspired by the bravery of the students, teachers, firefighters and other protesters in Madison, Wisconsin.

They were out again in force yesterday, surrounding the Capitol in the biggest demonstration yet. This minute, those protesters are risking arrest as they peacefully refuse to leave the Capitol, which they've occupied for the last twelve days.

The reports from across the country were amazing—inspiring and energizing. 1,000 people in St. Paul in 5-degree weather. 3,100 in a downpour in Trenton. And in deep red America, 300 people on the steps of the Alabama Capitol, and 400 in Jefferson City, Missouri.

And the world noticed. While cable news gave the protests far less coverage than much smaller tea party events, there was an extraordinary amount of local news coverage—more than we've ever seen. And The New York Times, the Associated Press, CNN, Bloomberg, and The Washington Post all covered the protests. On Twitter, #WeAreWI was one of the top trending topics nationwide.

The photos from across the country are beautiful, and make it clear that people are fired up. That we'll continue to stand with the people of Wisconsin as they continue to fight for their rights. And that yesterday was only the beginning.

Thanks for all you do.
