Ex-Astronaut says Gulf Plague 'shocking,' 'scary'

Friday, during David Gibbons' 'Crossing over the Bridge' Gulf program, special Gulf Coast and Ecuador guests compared notes on drilled oil devastation to people and their environment. Dr. Soto was praised for leadership in treating Gulf Plague patients. Former NASA scientists, Dr. Brian O’Leary, now working in Ecuador where oil industry human rights violations are similar to those in the Gulf, said that it is "shocking" and "scary" to see the immediate health impact in the Gulf region.

....

Many health problems in Ecuador due to oil industry contamination of the water supply and environment in general were delayed, in some cases by decades, according to Dr. O'Leary. Now, 10,000 people there have died due to oil-related cancer and many others are still sick from other related diseases he reported on Mr. Gibbons' show.

"There are some people still ill and still losing children," Dr. o'Leary said. "We're talking about long-term effects here."

Speaking with guests about the Gulf plague, striking more children and adults each week, Dr. O'Leary told Mr. Gibbons, "It is shocking to just see the immediate symptoms just a few months after the BP oil spill and to track this into the future ans to project. It's very scary. We're talking about long-term effects."

4. Exactly what are the documented effects of the gulf spill?
Why do we see so few studies on this? Is our Government covering up?

5. We're talking about corporate rights trumping living rights.
Jobs anyone? Are we that stupid and desperate to let this happen on our watch? And to let them do it again, and again?

"Cool breezes from the mountains blow

As I wake up and dress to go

On the island, dawn is breaking

In the harbor, tanker's waiting

From the land of the rising sun

They bring their old plutonium

And we unload it in the bay

For two dollars forty cents a day

Do you want my

Do you want my

Do you want my

Do you want my job

I hump the stuff, I take the cash

So my kids can wear Adidas

And if you live here, home, you know

We ain't got no place else to go

I remember when the air was sweet

And I brought home the fish to eat

Now we buy Spam from the grocery store

'Cause you can't eat the fish no more"
