Koch executives vow to 'continue to fight' in Wisconsin

SHAWN DOHERTY | The Capital Times | sdoherty@madison.com

In their first published remarks since a prank caller tricked Gov. Scott Walker into thinking he was speaking with big-bucks backer David Koch himself, Koch executives said that that hoax and nearly two weeks of Madison protests have only strengthened the Koch brothers' determination to continue to use their billions to promote a national agenda that includes gutting the power of unions and deregulating industry.

Their statements in a Thursday night story by Robert Costa of the National Review Online, itself a bastion of conservatism, were defiant.

"With the Left trying to intimidate the Koch brothers to back off of their support for freedom and signaling to others that this is what happens if you oppose the administration and its allies, we have no choice but to continue to fight," says Richard Fink, the executive vice president of Koch Industries. "We will not step back at all."

5. OMG, Obama is picking on the Koch Bros. Shame on you, Obama.
These guys go out and stir up others to do their dirty work for them, and then stand back and boo-hoo that they are being picked on.

I'll bet Obama can tell them what "being picked on" truly means. Good grief!

13. Did you read the accusation in the rest of the article?
My comment was in criticism to their comment about the Obama administration and what they were doing.

8. The Left?
They ain't seen nothing from the Left. This response is from those, who for the most part, consider themselves in the middle. If the Left existed in the fashion the Koch Bros think it does, they'd know about it......

12. their support for freedom?
their view of freedom certaily is twisted. They are not talking about freedom as most reasonable people view freedom. No, they're talking about their freedom to buy and sell politicians and governments in exchange for money and power.

14. Freedom = Free Markets. Cons have been saying that for years and years
I used to be right-center years ago and was an avid cable news and talk radio junkie. All the conservative pundits and politicians threw the term "freedom" around in the abstract flag waving sense ( and for most of the USA! USA! We're #1! types, that was all that was needed ), but when they actually discussed what it meant to put it into practice it was always about "free markets", well unfettered capitalism really. The uniformity and wide use of that definition really made a bad impression on me, and the cognitive dissonance began. That was the poison pill from within that made me began to hate neocons and move toward progressive.

15. One of the good things about this
Wisconsin union struggle is that it makes it crystal clear to America that it's conservative billionaire corporatists who trying to take down the unions and working class. It's so apparent that even Fox has to be careful in spinning this as something other.
