Wolf Blitzer on CNN saying Gaddafi has Chemical Wepons that can "burn."
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 05:17 PM by KoKo
What's up, now? He's also saying Obama is getting "pressure" about the situation in Libya.

I wonder if this means we need to do something to stop him from using WMD on his people? Is that where we are headed? CNN is usually the first to know.

1. If he uses real chemical weapons, the world needs to get involved.
It's as simple as that.

31. Re: weapons that can "burn," the traditional counter-weapon to poison gas is napalm.
The fire burns hot enough to destroy the chemicals, making it an effective way to strike storage depots.

and who knows what "illegal sales" have taken place on Black Market or what we gave to the "Military Contractors" like "Black Water" or it's new name "XE" and others who are proliferating these bioweapons.

5. Do you remember how CNN "previewed" the Iraq invasion?
Weeks of "Shock and Awe" talk before the invasion, pictures of the latest weaponry, made it sound like a theater trailer for a movie.

The stage is being set for us to invade Libya.
Or have someone else do it for us.

Libya was one of the countries, along with Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, in the original Middle East
blueprint of PNAC
( Project for New American Century).

14. That was my concern. It gave me a chill of dread just listening to him..
and remembering how Blitzer pimped his role in reporting the first Iraq Bombing under Poppy (where CNN made a spectacle out of it) and how he got his "star" anchor role at CNN right after that reporting.

He pumped the Iraq Invasion and is affiliated with NeoCons. When he started this tonight...I thought...Here We GO AGAIN! Bomb, Bomb, Bomb...LIBYA!

I hope that cooler heads in the Obama Administration will prevail over the ruthless Bushies and Reagan.

22. I had hoped so, too.
Until it was clear we were moving from Iraq to Afghanistan to Pakistan, then bombed Yemen, etc.
That is when I realized there was an apparent absence of "cooler heads".
And that we were in a race to which came first: running out of money or running out of countries to invade.

That said, attacks still aren't likely warranted. Sanctions and a no fly zone would help, though.

46. If reports coming out are accurate, all Gaddafi has left is a tenuous hold on
only part of Tripoli. Since the battles aren't being fought still in other major cities, perhaps we've moved beyond the need for no fly zones to protect them.

I'm not sure if he is still bringing in new mercenaries or not.

Plane from Turkey got them out. Embassy Director said that the Libyan Security had really been helpful and that all their private security (Libyans) were with them until they boarded the plane! She said she thinks all who wanted to get out are now out..but there are some dual citizens who may want to get out but are hunkered in with families. She said we should be concerned about any of them that may feel in danger, but none had reported to the Embassy expressing wishes to get out as of the time she left.

Gaddafi is reported to have 10 tons of it, and their are fears he willl use it:

Libyan chaos raises worries over chemical weapons stockpile
Posted: February 24th, 2011 06:30 PM ET
Pam Benson
CNN National Security Producer

Washington (CNN) - The chaos in Libya has raised fears about the security of deadly mustard gas stockpiled in the country and whether Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi might use it on his own people.

A U.S. official said that in a "chaotic situation" there is concern about Libya possessing mustard gas and other chemical agents.

Although there has been no signs that the Libyan leader has ordered their use, Gadhafi is often described by officials as an unpredictable, mercurial individual.

Libya still has approximately 10 tons of the deadly blister agent left in its arsenal, according to Peter Caril, a non-proliferation expert at the Arms Control Association.

42. I saw some questions raised about how old it is
They say it deteriorates over time.

All of his delivery systems have also been reported as destroyed. The possibility that he could still have it dispersed from helicopters has been discounted (because his loyalists would balk at using it against their own people, even the mercs would balk at personally handling it, etc.).

That still doesn't completely rule out airborne application or other means of using it. (I saw one tweet from Libya advising people not to drink tap water because some who had were experiencing ill effects--and it was feared he might have had it poisoned.)

The only thing that's certain is that he's willing to do anything and seems to be determined to punish Libyans with a bloodbath for their disloyalty.

he doesn't have the delivery systems to attack with it.

He said that the mustard gas could be left on the ground and still burn anyone who came into contact with it.

He didn't seemm to be taking it as a serious threat, although the demonstraters are aware of the possiblity, and are taking precautions.

That's my worry and CNN and BLITZER really ARE ...Shadow (PNAC) GOVT.

Do any of you here on DU think that we would EVER GIVE UP the ME to a "PEACEFUL REVOLUTION?" Our history in this is not good and the same folks there are still there who have pushed AMERICA into ENDLESS WAR!

Should we be concerned? Will Obama save us from MORE WAR...MORE MONEY out of our TAXES for WAR...MORE JOB LOSS BECAUSE OF WAR.... HOW LONG MUST WE PAY...AND PAY AND PAY....as AMERICA DECLINES for WARS IN THE MIDDLE EAST? HOW MUCH LONGER? IS IT REALLY WORTH ANY OF IT?

39. Like the white phosphorus the US used illegally in Fallujah!?

US used white phosphorus in Iraq

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/4440664.stm

"It was used as an incendiary weapon against enemy combatants," spokesman Lt Col Barry Venable told the BBC - though not against civilians, he said.

The US had earlier said the substance - which can cause burning of the flesh - had been used only for illumination.

'Particularly nasty'

White phosphorus is highly flammable and ignites on contact with oxygen. If the substance hits someone's body, it will burn until deprived of oxygen.

Globalsecurity.org, a defence website, says: "Phosphorus burns on the skin are deep and painful... These weapons are particularly nasty because white phosphorus continues to burn until it disappears... it could burn right down to the bone."
