Reasons 2012 will be the end
Next year, there will be elections. Whoever wins the presidency will support the right wing agenda, only the Republican will admit it.
Mr. Obama has been Bush III in almost every way, with a few things around the margins tossed as a bone. I f he wins, wars, drone attacks, no stimulus, budget cuts to essential safety net programs - all will continue to be supported by the White House.
A Republican president will be marginally worse.

We will lose the Senate - the Citizens United ruling took the lid off spending, and it sure worked last year for the GOP. Add to the mix the spineless group now in the Senate, and the GOP will rule the house. BTW? They will get rid of the filibuster.

The Dem base? We will stay home in droves, as we did in '10. Minorities, the young, etc, all will not give a shit who fucks them over - after committing big time to a Dem Party who did nothing at all for them.

The elderly will come out strong, again, for the GOP. Of course, they will keep THEIR social security as part of the bargain - only the middle age and younger folks will see it dissolve.

State governments will aid, as they are already, in destroying the unions entirely, abetted by the new corporatista regime (replacing the current one in Washington).

Say hello to fascism, my friends, for it's gonna be here next year.

As well as " Obama will not face a renomination challenge."

But let's see what happens w. inflation and oil prices. ( Tell ya, right about now it's not looking like a slam dunk.)

4. I agree, especially after seeing this in the KCStar

Voter ID measures advance in both states

TOPEKA | Proposals requiring Kansas and Missouri voters to show picture IDs when they vote gained steam in both legislatures today.

One proposal cruised through the Kansas House on a 78-36 vote, setting it up for easy final approval on Friday. The proposal also would require every person to show proof of citizenship when they register to vote in Kansas.

Meanwhile, the Missouri Senate approved a constitutional amendment allowing voters to be required to show photo identification. If approved by the legislature, it would go to voters in 2012.

The vote in the Kansas House came after a plodding debate that didn’t reflect the emotion seen in the arguments over abortion, outlawing in-state tuition for illegal immigrants and a move to cut the influence of labor unions.

11. Bull. The repukes have jumped the shark, especially with their attack on labor, and they WILL
face the consequences in 2012.

Do I like what Obama has done? NO I don't, however, he is not "marginally better" than what the republican party is today. It is night and day.

Obama is a moderate with definite corporate influence, but republicans are extreme far right with racist overtones

Obama is not what we thought, but he is no teabagger, which is what have taken over the repug party

Teabaggers are the cream of the party risen to the top.

And we have 3 strikes against us:

Unfettered campaign spending

Media against us

Very limited auditing of voting machine counts (Except for California)

There will have to be an 'earthquake' type of movement to stop this bottom seeking system we now live in. Thank gawd I'm an old man. I feel sorry for the kids. My generation can go suck an egg.

Those opposed will stay home....but the youth and the indies will come back to the Democratic side and we'll win.

President Obama has not been bush3....what a wild, inaccurate statement trying to put it across that he has been.

Those who have made it a life commitment to be disappointed will continue to be....and nobody will care.

21. I think you have a ageism problem. Broad swipe the elderly much?
I am elderly. About your so callously bad mouthing the elderly regarding keeping THEIR social security, you are wrong!

Many, many of us are life long Dems and we care about SS for the generations that follow. We most likely we will have SS for ourselves. It's not us, it is you, we worry about and you are who we will fight for! We know all too well just how important the safety net of SS will be for future generations.

I really feel like calling you a little snot but I won't.

Oh and by the way the Republican Party is not made up just of old people. Why do you feel the need to highlight only their elderly?

26. You tell 'em....

At the risk of sounding 'ageist' myself, I am beginning to think the ability to embrace global human values died in the social revolution of the sixties.

Our generation (my child-less self excluded) raised a generation of self-absorbed materialists who, to this day, can't get past how much money they have. If they make it to the old-age entitlement stage, I wonder what they'll whining about then.

24. The rich will get richer
I think this is just the natural order of things. The global corporations demand subservient and cheap labor. They hire the best and the brightest the world over to come up with new ways to lie, cheat and steal. Our elected officials take the payoffs and do the best they can to help them turn us into another third world country. It feels almost inevitable to me at this point. Unless some sort of global energy/food/climate crisis sends us crashing back to our roots.

25. Most of this is wrong
Obama isn't 'Bush III'

The base will NOT stay home . . . Obama's chances of re-election look pretty good right now and will look better once the Republicans settle on a candidate.

Elderly coming out strong for the GOP . . . what's new about that? Senior citizens always vote in high numbers and many people get more conservative as they age -- that's just the way things are.

State governments going after unions? I don't know, it's possible they will make some gains, but mainly in states with the most serious deficits. All of that will include huge fights that will energize the Dem base.

Fascism? I don't think so. Unfortunately for many people here 'fascist' simply means something they don't like. Even if all branches go Republican, they will all swing back to the Dems sooner or later.

The only thing I agree with here is the Dems losing the Senate. That looks likely since the Republicans have been making electoral gains and the Dems have to defend a lot of seats, some of which will be really tough to hold on to. But that won't last forever. Eventually the political climate will shift and you'll see the Senate flip back.

48. It's to laugh.
The Naderite/Green/Socialist/Marxist fringe loonies that hate the Democratic Party are always calling themselves "The Base", like if you say it enough times, it will turn into reality.

Any time they feel in the least way slighted, the backstabbing commences on actual Democrats.

They can stay home and pout, they won't be missed in 2012, others are there to pick up the miniscule slack in voting they might leave.

The actual base of the Democratic Party will donate, volunteer, and get out the vote for Democrats while the rest of them stare at their navels while awaiting the coming Socialist Worker's Paradise.
