Just saw a comment praising the lay off letters to RI teachers.
"Do it. It's a necessary evil."

Why does it feel like the person is saying, "Hey nose, I've got a sharp knife I'd like to introduce you to?"

Is investment in education really seen as a necessary evil these days? A necessary evil? Really?!?

1. I used to be surprised when I saw comments like that around here,
but not anymore.

The Obama/Duncan attitude toward teachers has trickled down even to our humble online community.

7. This particular comment wasn't at DU.
I have seen plenty of anti-teacher comments here as well, but wanted to make it clear to everyone that this quote was in response to an on-line article announcing the layoffs. It was not copied from a post here at DU.

I honestly don't get it. I homeschool my own kids, but that doesn't mean I have the slightest bit of disrespect for teachers or do not value public education.

2. The end game is privatization of everything.
Then watch where the money goes.

3. It's envy and spite...
The people saying that can't see any way to elevate themselves other than bringing down others that they resent.

4. I can't even be shocked anymore.
Some people in this country really really hate teachers. They think we should be like the private sector. It's what a society based on profit-worship gets you.

6. We're just trough feeders who hate children
Wish it could still make me angry to read this kind of nonsense. But it's so common anymore it's not shocking in the least.
