Threads for previous days are in my journal

To make sure the Army doesn't swing the revolution to the people, with the silent complicity of world leaders more concerned about the stability of oil prices than people's lives, Qaddafi has brought in more than 35,000 North African mercenaries specifically from Chad, Nigeria, Guinea and Darfur. There's a Facebook video of a captured mercenary from Chad (Youtube here). Captured mercenaries confessed they were paid between $12,000 - $30,000 each. Today pamphlet ads were found in Nigeria offering them $2000/day for their savage work.

Is Qaddafi the only one paying these mercenaries? Or are EU governments, with their long history of hiring mercenaries, chipping in? I demand to know.

Calls mount for military intervention in Libya
By Ann Talbot
25 February 2011

The British government is actively considering sending Special Forces troops to Libya, on the pretext of rescuing 170 workers trapped in isolated oil exploration encampments, as fighting continues there amid mass uprisings against the regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

Reports from inside Libya were fragmentary, due to fighting and limitations on foreign media imposed by the Gaddafi regime. They suggested that Misurata, Libya’s third-largest city, was in the hands of anti-Gaddafi forces, with fighting moving to cities such as Zawiya and al-Khums, that are closer to Libya’s capital, Tripoli. Gaddafi also broadcast another belligerent speech today, blaming the uprising on Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden and claiming that protesters were on drugs.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said that he did not rule out the possibility of sending Special Forces to Libya.

Hague convened a meeting of the cabinet emergency group COBRA, along with Defence Secretary Liam Fox. Prime Minister David Cameron is on a trade mission in the Middle East, centring on the sale of arms to Persian Gulf despots.

OMG> They caught a mercenary. He's up and bleeding from the mouth. Lots of ammo, rockets captured, tanks too. Thank God we won, they had weapons, we had stones. Blood all over the floor. Oh... shoots of Libyan soldiers with hands tied behind their backs who were executed. Also of a merc in blue uniform. makeshift hospital scenes. Shots of the dead under sheets.

Save The Children dispatches emergency response team
Posted on February 25, 2011 by admin

The charity Save The Children has sent an “emergency dispatch team” to the Middle East in order to prepare for any potential refugees.

Save the Children’s Middle East regional director El Khidir Daloum received reports that children had been killed in the attacks by Libyan securityu forces and called them “deeply disturbing”.

He fears many children will be displaced if the violence intensifies and people flee the country.

The BBC now also reports that State TV is broadcasting images of Green Square which they claim to be live, the BBC writes:

Libya’s state TV shows footage of what it says is Tripoli’s “Green Square now”. There are about 50 demonstrators at most in the shot, carrying pictures of Col Gaddafi. Someone is heard shouting pro-Gaddafi slogans and chanting “Popular revolution” and “We are Libyans”.
