Freedom Calling

Thank God, change is coming. The massive world shaking call to freedom has been heard and Governments are beginning to listen to the voice of the people. Egypt is still crawling out of the shadows of its political past, and there are many other countries which are still under the yoke of authoritarian regimes.

Yusuf has written a song inspired by events in Egypt, entitled, ‘My People’. God willing, it will soon be available as a free download.

We speak with rock icon Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, about his latest song My People which is inspired by the popular uprisngs calling for freedom and change in the Arab world.

The song was recorded in a studio close to the Berlin Wall which fell in 1989 paving the way for the unification of Germany and the collapse of communism in Europe.

Islam, who gave the world timeless classics such as Wild World, Morning Has Broken and Peace Train, says his song is also intended to urge people in the Arab world to keep fighting for their rights.
