Georgia anti-abortion bill would require investigations of miscarriages
Legislation recently introduced to the Georgia legislature by House Republican Bobby Franklin would make abortion the legal equivalent of murder and require miscarriages to be investigated by authorities.

The bill, known as HB 1, was uncovered by the progressive blog The Daily Kos.

Franklin's bill would classify the removal of a fetus from a woman for any reason other than to produce a live birth or to remove a dead fetus as "prenatal murder." Physicians indicted for alleged "prenatal murder" would have their license suspended until they were found innocent of the crime.

Although the legislation would not place any criminal penalties on natural spontaneous abortions, it would require miscarriages to be reported by hospitals and other medical institutions, and a fetal death certificate issued.

Authorities would be required to investigate the cause of fetal death in cases where a miscarriage occurs without attendance at a medical facility.

State Rep. Franklin also recently introduced a bill mandating that victims of rape, stalking, harassment, and family violence be re-classified as "accusers."

1. This is ridiculous and hurtful. 1) My docs had no idea why I miscarried my first two babies because

it happened so early on. 2) I was grieving and terribly upset. Last thing I needed would have been someone accusing me of having done something wrong because I couldn't carry those kids to term.

This bill had better get aborted or I am going to be really pissed with the legislature!!

2. Almost makes me wish I still had that monthly thing happening.
I think I'd call those a-holes every month and demand that they come and 'investigate' my 'miscarriage'. That would keep them pretty busy.

And I guess a bill mandating that victims of rape, stalking, harassment, and family violence can be reclassified as 'accusers' just as soon as murder victims, robbery victims, drunk driving victims, assault and battery victims, and etc. are also reclassified as 'accusers'.

These people hate women.

3. How in the hell can removal of a dead fetus be called murder??
It's a life saving procedure intended to keep a woman from losing HER life also. This guy is insane. How did people ever ever elect him?

4. Hasn't that been tried before?
Oh yeah. I remember now...

http://revcom.us/i/086/monstrous-en.pdf

Under the Nazi Regime in Germany all miscarriages were to be registered and investigated. German women were encouraged to produce lots of “good German” children for “good German” families—while homosexuals were rounded up as threats to this goal. Excluding those groups in society deemed “inferior” and marked for extermination, abortions were illegal. Under the law for the “Protection of Marriage, Family and Motherhood,” violations could be punished with death. Women’s lives turned into nightmares. In the name of promoting the life of the fetus.

:grr: :banghead:

6. That'll be a nightmare
women miscarry all the time, for a huge range of reasons. Many of them aren't really well understood.

To try this on a mass scale would soak up the medical resources of the entire state.

7. hypocrisy
Here's the thing to me. We know, *KNOW* that adequate prenatal care is directly linked to infant mortality. We know, for a fact, that infant mortality is higher among low-income women, and that among african-american women and latina/hispanic women the infant mortality rate is DOUBLE that of white women, and we know that is directly proportional to access to adequate prenatal care. What I do not understand, is if someone is truly concerned about miscarriages why they do not put their efforts in to establishing adequate prenatal care for low-income women. Yet, they fight against access to health care. Especially in terms of immigrant women, it seems that many of these law makers would prefer to do just the opposite. They do not want immigrant women to get health care. It isn't logically or morally consistent.

But of course you don't have to be logically or morally consistent if you are soulless bastard.

10. Personally I'm inclined to trust the mom
when she says effectively that she is either unwilling, unable, or both to raise a child at this particular point in time.

12. God is the biggest abortionist. He/She/It must be killed.
Seriously, most abortions are spontaneous and happen for unknown reasons. For the religious who believe that everything is pre-ordained, then it follows that they think that God is the A #1, Primero abortionist of all time. No one else even comes close.
