I can't figure this editorial in Chinese state media out......
Edited on Tue Feb-22-11 09:47 PM by HEyHEY
So, this week the government has been putting a bunch of anti-micro blog editorials and such out, trying to discredit them cause of the uprisings in Africa. It's funny cause just last month they were singing their praises as a great way for politicians to communicate. ANYWAY.... so, this editorial comes out. It's so over the top and stupid that I think the writer was given the assignment and took a piss out of it. Especially the last paragraph, he can't be serious.... What do you think?

"Chinese microbloggers have been trying to lure women into posing for lewd photos with iPhones suspended between their cleavage over the last five days, supposedly to win a free iPhone. This shows the danger of microblogs spreading rumors and unhealthy information. Although clearly a ruse and denied by Apple, this "contest" attracted at least 1,000 comments and was reposted more than 6,000 times.

A number of Chinese women were successfully pressured into humiliating themselves by posing for such pictures. This shows both sagging moral bankruptcy caused by a lack of public support for women's virtue, and a lack of restraint in the twittosphere."

2. Wait... So they were supposed to take photos of iPhones between their boobs...
...in order to win a free iPhone? But they already had to have one to take the picture.

Why would anyone need 2 iPhones?

Signed,

Baffled in Poughkeepsie.

5. The last paragraph is surreal

Future contests along these lines should be supervised by officials, and require women to hold an iPhone between their comparatively well-proportioned thighs, rather than between cleavage that may or may not be deep enough for the job. This way, China will win in the long run, and the Chinese people will stay focused on what we say is important

Right off into weirdland...

3. They are going there... WOW
I am surprised some of our conservative (social types) haven't gone there.

Virtue is a critical virtue and if you are after discrediting anything... there you go.

And yes, sounds like... somebody gave an order or two... I mean yesterday there was a crackdown on an emergent protest, jasmie revolution... I will not be too shocked if that did not make it into official state media either.

6. ROFL
The kind of emphasis on large breasts implicit in the fake iPhone contest spreads a certain model of hegemony that benefits the West, and does little to flatter the special, delicate Chinese characteristics of our women.
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

8. Tell whoever does formatting over there to make it so that the picture they have in the article...
is Facebook compatible. It's really frustrating not being able to have that thumbnail appear.

Oh, and he's serious. Seriously awesome!
