Haha: Freepers blowing gaskets as Brown says he's not a Tea Party guy
Sen. Scott Brown says, 'I'm not a Tea Party member,' welcomes GOP primary
By Michael O'Brien - 02/22/11 08:11 AM ET

"You're talking about being an ideologue? If you're looking for one, I'm not it," said Sen. Scott Brown.

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) said he doesn't consider himself a member of the Tea Party movement and would welcome any primary challenger.

Brown, the Republican senator from deep-blue Massachusetts whose win in a special election last year in part catalyzed the Tea Party movement, said he considers himself just a Republican, though one with sympathies toward some Tea Party issues.

"Hey, nothing wrong with a primary. I welcome all challengers," Brown said Tuesday morning on MSNBC.

1. Brown knows the only way he'll win re-election is to get as moderate as possible
Because Massachusett voters might get fooled once but they won't get fooled again.

2. Awwww! Freepers are so cute when they're all riled up.
Me thinks Brown has seen the "Tea Party = crazy" writing on the wall (courtesy of Bachman & Palin -- just to name two), and he's in self-preservation mode.

Can't say I blame him.

3. He's trying to play both sides of the fence.

He's telling the saner part of his base that he's not one of those crazy tea partiers, while winking at the Tea Party base saying, don't worry I'm really one of you.

5. He knows his election was a fluke.
He has to distance himself from the 'baggers.

6. He won as a protest vote
In deep blue Mass he wont win reelection by just being a good Republican, he needs to move towards being an Independent (like a moderate Bernie Sanders) if he wants to have any chance.

I doubt he will go far enough though.

8. My dad "He'll be President" Me: "Not w/Tea Party around!"
Someone like Brown, a "moderate" Republican, could be very appealing to moderate Republicans and "Reagan" Democrats. Might actually give Obama a run for his money. But as they did in Delaware, the Tea Party will make sure that candidates who appeal to the middle won't have a chance.
