(Bottom line here is you should be ready and willing to submit to going through metal detectors
and emptying your pockets if you are trying to get to the Gallery. As we know this is unnecessary
as lawmakers are not in danger. For people wanting to be present to protest today as the Assembly
takes up the bill be aware that authorities are cranking up their preparedness.)

MADISON, Wis. -- Authorities are planning additional security precautions to make sure Wisconsin lawmakers aren't affected by protests at the Capitol on Tuesday when they debate a bill that would take away union rights.
A memo from the Assembly's sergeant-at-arms said only legislators, staff and credentialed media will have access to certain hallways on Tuesday. Assembly galleries will be open to the public, but spectators will need to empty their pockets and go through metal detectors to enter.
The Assembly is expected to meet at 11 a.m. to consider Gov. Scott Walker's bill, which includes deep cuts to public employees' benefits and collective bargaining rights.
The memo said police officers will be available to assist lawmakers when they are moving around the building.
Walker said all 132 members of the Legislature need "adequate protection" during the debate.
