What do Fox News and the flu have in common?
Edited on Tue Feb-22-11 12:36 AM by AmBlue
My 13yo son who has a natural comic streak was back at school today for the first time in a week after having a terrible round of the flu. Someone asked why he missed so much school. He replied, "Because my immune system is about as reliable as Fox News." The teacher overheard and asked why he would say such a thing and then commented that, "Your parents must have told you that." My son replied in his best Gomer Pyle accent, "But my parents went to college." (knowing full-well that this home ec substitute has no college degree) She replied, "But going to college doesn't mean you're smart." My son was completely surprised at this remark and would have loved to rip on this lady, but knew better so decided to not take her bait. Still the teacher pressed on: "So why do you think Fox News isn't reliable?" He said, "Do you know where Egypt is?" She replied, "Yes." He said, "Well, Fox News doesn't." And then he told her about the story where Fox News had a map up that had Iraq labeled as Egypt. She apparently knew about it and mumbled something like, "Ya got me on that." And finally the subject was dropped.

4. Hahaha that's cute. :)
I've found, in my forays across message boards, that it seems that they young realize that Fox is full of shit more readily than adults do. I have no explanation for that (and it may just be the sites I tend to frequent, thusly anecdotal), but it IS funny. :)

7. Makes sense.
1) Kids are smarter than we are (their brains haven't started ossifying yet).
2) Kids haven't yet learned to confuse convention with truth.
