6. The right to join a union is a civil right.
The Democratic Party relies on "people power" to counteract the "money power" of the corporations.

Unions are the main organizers for Democratic Party candidates to get out the vote. The purpose of the right wing attack on unions is to destroy the Democratic Party as a contender in American politics.

If the right wing is successful, then this will turn America into a one-party state run without opposition by a far right wing Republican Party.

The other attack on democracy is the right wing push for so-called "voter ID" legislation. Their claims of fraud perpetrated by voters have been found to be of minor occurrence, while the voting machines supplied by ESS and Diebold have been found to produce serious errors when COUNTING the votes.

The aim of the Republican Party is to turn America into a one-party state with a small, compliant, powerless middle class and a vast under class. In other words, their aim is to turn America into a banana republic.

35. Couldn't your posts also be considered ME-ism?...
These people are working at an issue that's important to them, just as you consistently post about an issue that's important to you.

Not everyone has the same priorities. Should the protesters in WI be criticized because they don't have the same priorities that you have?

36. Yes, indeed... the facade has fallen off... you don't give a damn about poor people and never did.
It was all a sham all this time.

Yes, you all have made it clear that we poor folk don't matter to you.

Just don't come back and demand our votes. You did it to yourselves, so stop the whining. You have lost votes that you need, and you are too besotted with yourselves to see what y0u have done to yourselves.

37. Nice deflection...
how 'bout addressing the question I asked.

Should the protesters in WI be criticized because they don't have the same priorities that you have?

Should poverty be the only injustice that can be posted about?

Edited on Wed Feb-23-11 10:08 AM by SidDithers
Do protesters in WI deserve your criticism because their issue is different from yours?

Your inability to recognize the legitimacy of their protest, because it doesn't address your particular concern, is the ultimate ME-ism that you so deride at the beginning of this subthread.

Sid

21. I went yesterday in Las Vegas
A thousand people in apolitical, apathetic Las Vegas ain't bad. It was also cool to hang out and shop talk (about unions) with the IBEW; I'm a teacher, and the electricians were really surprised at not only how many teachers came out, but at how much we had in common.

In Vegas, by the way, there's a big rally on Friday against the governors proposed cuts in education. We're already 50th in the nation; can it get any worse? Apparently so.

There is nothing planned in my area locally, so I am engaging in my own guerrilla advertising campaign tonight...

I made a two of these in the shop today:

I also made one that says: IS IT CORPORATE RULE YET? and one that says: NEW YORK STANDS WITH WISCONSIN

I reinforced the corners with grommets and intend on hanging these from a few expressway bridges locally and one on a bridge over the New York State Thruway Interstate 90 tonight/early morning...
