I grew up in a union family. My dad was Local 93 UAW at the Leeds Chevrolet plant in Kansas City, MO, my uncle UAW at the BOP plant and my other uncle a railroad engineer with Union Pacific. I know what unions have done for my family and for many families that don't realize that the benefits they enjoy are because of the sacrifices made by union families throughout history. Belonging to the AFT when I taught in Chicago years back was one of the most memorable and eye-opening experiences of my life. In 5 years, we picketed 3 times and won major concessions. I can still hear the trucks and cars blowing their horns in support as we marched in front of our schools. Union people are the greatest and most definitely welcome here.

Thank you OS for bringing this to our attention and welcome to all of our new Union Members.
My shop is staffed by Local 580 Ornamental and Architectural Iron Workers. I'm management so I'm not a member however they have 100% of my support. If they were to walk out I would go with them, but we make sure to treat them even better than our agreement requires.
I also want to thank the New Jersey Iron Workers Local 483 for the great work they did with us while working with NY Local 580 installing the Overhead Commercial Doors at the New Meadowland's Stadium.

As a side note, my entire family,my father, and two brothers retired as Teamsters.

Without unions, we would still be back in the dark days of 7 day work weeks, low pay, no vacation, no sick days, and no medical benefits, so any of you anti-union DU members or lurkers should thank a union every time you're able to got to the doctor and still get paid for the day. Thank them for your weekends off and especially thank them for not requiring your 10 - 12 year old child being forced to work to help support your family.
