Let me tell you how much of a "parasite" my daughter's teacher is
Edited on Sat Feb-19-11 03:37 PM by underpants
Set up: yesterday in 5 minutes of talk radio (the fat one) I heard "parasite" "free loaders" and several other despicable ways to describe fellow citizens specifically teachers "who do NOT care about the children. This is all about THEM". It concluded with "You are either for your country or you are for the unions" - he may have actually said "teachers" instead of unions I forget.

Okay so my little girl was suddenly hospitalized last Sunday for complications from strep throat. An infection in the form of an abscess behind one of her tonsils. She luckily made enough progress that she got discharged on Tuesday avoiding surgery. *phew*.

So I get a return call from her kindergarten teacher that afternoon.
"Do you need anything?" first question. I say that we have her homework so.... "Oh I don't mean that everyone at the school wants to know if you need dinner or anything like that". I was so impressed and touched by this. Then.....

"Can I come by the hospital to see her?" she asks. I told her that we had been discharged and were at home. Immediately she asks if she can come by our house the next day. She does while my wife was home with our girl. She shows up with a gift she paid for OUT OF HER OWN POCKET, all of our girl's Valentine's from Monday, and a 3X3 foot poster made by the class with everyone's hand prints and get well messages- it was even laminated so it will last forever.

The teacher also knows someone who is a doctor at the hospital Josie was in. IF she had needed surgery the teacher was going to get her friend to observe the procedure in the operating room if for nothing else but to put us at ease.

I am writing a letter to the school tomorrow thanking them and praising this fantastic teacher, human being, and member of the community.
I am so very impressed by all of it.

Now tell me who the "parasite" is?

since I get up early to run and I have basically no internet abilities at work I take a nap during lunch.
Nothing powers down the mind like a few minutes of Rush.

2. Sounds like the "parasite" that my granddaughter is saddled with
She had a medical emergency at school requiring an ambulance--I was en route to the hospital and the teacher called me on her cell phone, she was literally sobbing. She treated her like her own child during this emergency.
The concern for my precious baby was very touching.
Her response to the situation was amazing.
She remains dedicated and I am so appreciative to her, that words simply could not convey.

Your daughter is blessed to have a teacher that cares so much.

A good teacher will be in your memory forever. I have a couple of teachers who made all the difference in my life. If for nothing else than to make me grateful that they were in my life.

Lots of people will tell you that one teacher in their lives made all the difference.

13. Sounds like my mom's partner...
the one who organizes fun runs and jump rope-a-thons for charity every year, so that the kids learn about giving. And the same parasite who buys backpacks full of supplies and clothing for less fortunate kids in the district.

People like Scott Walker and Chris "Fucking Bastard" Christie make my blood boil.

with a shitty teacher.

Sorry I offended anyone, it was not my intent.

And to answer your question; no, I had no good experiences here in red hell dealing with the teachers. Not one ever attempted to reach out to a seriously abused girl in the 1970's that went from an A student to wearing all black clothing and speaking to no one. Not one teacher ever asked what was wrong, could they help, not one.

The one who made "spirit" bags for all his students... al 85 of them... at the first of the year... with school supplies and positive vibes.

the one who made Holiday stockings for all his kids... all 85... with gloves and some little stocking stuffers.

the one who has donated every Saturday to school failing kids

the one who donates Tuesday nights helping adults get GEDs

That freaking greedy parasite.

20. I just did
On Friday just after noon I had the misfortune of hearing a person who apparently makes a grotesque amount of money doing nothing other than talk on AM radio using terms like “parasite” “dead beat” and “free loaders” directed specifically at teachers who are protesting to protect their right to collectively bargain wages and benefits in America’s heartland. Basically attacking the people rather than talk about the actual issue for the purpose of dividing people against each other.

Last Sunday my daughter was hospitalized with complications from strep throat. I received a call from her kindergarten teacher on Tuesday asking if she could visit our little one in the hospital. She also knew a doctor at the hospital who would have observed the procedure in the operating room had my daughter’s condition warranted it if for no other reason than to put my wife an I at ease. I informed her that we were now at home. Our girl had progressed to the point that she had been discharged earlier that day (luckily) avoiding surgery. She then asked if we needed anything like dinner or anything, everyone at the school wanted to know what they could do to help. Telling her that we were fine but thanks the teacher asked if she could come by our house the next day to see our girl, her student.

On Wednesday afternoon she came by our house for over an hour bringing a gift that she bought with her own money, our girl’s Valentines from Monday, and a poster with all of the class’s handprints and get well messages. The poster was laminated so it will last forever. Her actions will last forever in our hearts.

Now someone please tell me who the “parasite” is.

23. The parasites are the people flinging the insult; either well-paid members of the useless media
that does nothing but feed us lies & talking points they get verbatim from their bosses -- or their bosses, the people who make millions in a day by scamming the public.

"Accuse others of what you do" is their rule.

27. Being a retired school social worker...
I know what great heroes teachers are! I have seen them buy student supplies, pay for their poorer students to go on field trips, etc. One teacher wanted to buy something for one of her poorer students but did not want to make it obvious. She she told her class someone had donated whatever it was and set up a phony raffle. Every student wrote their name on a piece of paper and put it in a bag. The teacher reached into the bag and "read" the name of the winner.
Teachers didn't go into teaching for the money! They deserve incredible respect. Teacher well-being sacrificed for corporations? Disgusting!

high school teaching job and returns at 7 and most of the time she continues at home to do grading or prep. She worked 6 hours yesterday (saturday) and usually on the weekends she's working, sick from overwork, or sleeping to catch up and have the energy to do it again.

35. It is hard to believe she's old enough to be in school!
Wow. Doesn't seem that long ago that we all celebrated the arrival of little underpants, and now she's in school!!!! I have to mark the passage of time by looking at my own kid, and I guess that applies to other kids as well...

Sounds like Josie had a peritosular abscess (not totally sure of that spelling, btw.) That stuff is creepy as heck, and literally is life threatening if not caught in time. Hubby had that happen a few years ago, and the Family Practice doc literally refused to touch him--he got sent directly to the ER. Glad to hear your little one is doing better.

Hug that teacher for me, please. I will say that those teachers at the Kindergarten level are just an amazing bunch. ALL teachers are amazing, but I have never met a Kindergarten teacher that wasn't just a notch above. Please do write that letter for her, and if I can make a suggestion, I'd like to suggest that you maybe consider mailing a letter to the editor for your local newspaper as well.
