Defending himself against critics who say
his budget would boost business profits at
the expense of poor people, Gov. Rick
Snyder said Friday his plan protects basic
state services, such as health care for low-
income residents.

At issue is Snyder's proposal to eliminate
the Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit,
which puts hundreds of dollars each year
into the hands of nearly 800,000 working
