The opening the President has to be re-elected.
I have been confident up till the Wisconsin fight for rights started that President Obama would not be re-elected. If, and this is a big if, Obama does the right thing and handles this to be seen as him siding with the people protesting, then he will have a good chance of re-election.

This is a critical time and I hope he makes the right decisions.

1. I doubt the general populace will pay that much attention.

3. Really. The biggest groundswell of protests in years. No one will notice.

7. Yes. Really. People who watch C-SPAN and read DU will notice. The general populace will not.

9. You really have a low regard for average people if you think that.

12. I wouldn't call it a low regard. I think it's generally realistic and correct. The....
Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue came out this week. I'd bet that more US voters will look through that magazine than could accurately explain what's going on in Madison and why it's important.

2. He would have to transcend the "self" he's been since assuming office...
...but here's "hoping" he can "change..."

4. He'll be reelected unless the rethugs find a savior, which I
seriesle doubt.

6. Until this plays out in Wisconsin and Obama's role is decided by people, he will not be re-elected.

16. Bet me. Who will have a chance? You may wish he won't,
but he will. Name a rethug challenger, or a Dem who would challenge Obama.

5. This really has nothing to do with the president
The protests in Wisconsin has more to do with showing him how he should be leading this country

10. It may be a make or break time for the working people of this country
His lack of leadership has pushed the people to the point
that protests are the only way they can be heard by this administration

13. Get real.
Obama's reelection is almost guaranteed. The array of clowns in the Republican field are so pathetic that they're looking to Chris Christie as their savior. When the opposition is that desperate, they're not going to win an election.

17. When I interviewed
Mark Rudd for DU last month, he noted that the Democratic Left must apply pressure in order to force/allow President Obama to lead. Those who view Obama as center-right may believe it would be "force," while others will be equally convinced it will "allow."

I'm not particularly concerned if it is one or the other, at this point. I just want citizens to force the point on Washington.

In doing so, I believe it can lead to what you say in your OP.

Recommended.
