A Day of Infamy
It was decided a long time ago. The wealthy have successfully masterminded a coup of our legislative and executive branch of government. They already control the judicial branch.

Nobody is going to stop the taxcuts from being extended two years from now. Barack Obama will be on his way home to sweet Chicago. The Republicans will be in control of everything.

Both corporate Parties have hoodwinked the American people. They pretended to fight. They knew all along how they were going to vote. There was no question.

But, in my humble opinion, this is a decision that cannot be undone. This was our only chance to undo the damage of the Bush taxcuts and the wrecking of our economy. It will not get better. It will get worse.

The deficit has now become the issue of the decade. Cuts must be made. Everything that Democrats have fought for for 75 years is threatened by this decision of the US Senate. It is not a time for celebration. It is a time to mourn what we have lost.

Lone Star beer and Bob Wills music. Turn it up!

6. There is no hope for the Republican Party...
and very little for the Democratic Party. They have compromised. We are compromised.

7. There are more of us than tnem.
Both bases have to work together.
Right now both bases fight each other and that lets the top play their dangerous games.
When 5 million angry people march on DC then you would see a lot of them get really scared

8. Ayup
Thought this same thought today. Not much difference.
Don't know what would make the difference. Riots? Physically taking over the premises?

Sorry about Richard Holbrooke dying so young and in a vital spot diplomatically re: Middle East....what a mess.

How ineffectual we've become.

But you know that we on the left are right. We've always been right, correct in our thinking
and prescience. Correct about the direction of this country, where our moral standing should be
and who has the courage to do it in the right way.

11. rocky...
You are becoming more like Willie Nelson everyday.

He once told someone that he had built up such a natural high that he had to smoke to get normal...

peace

15. Lol, it's so funny you say that.
I smoke to be normal. There's millions of us that do. When I smoked for the first time I marveled at the people giggling and staring at their hands all around me, while I just felt normal for the first time in my life. Not boring normal, just, well, calm. Relaxed. More myself, one might say.

And did you say something about Willie?

14. You're right - in 1860 Ralph Waldo Emerson said:
"The teaching of politics is that the Government, which was set up for protection and comfort of all good citizens, becomes the principle obstruction and nuisance with which we have to contend...the cheat and bully and malefactor we meet everywhere IS the Government."

17. It is nothing short of betrayal...
by Senators from our own Party, members of the elite, pretending they had a debate about the need for unemployment benefits and the middle class taxcuts. It didn't take them long to agree with the Repubs, did it? Who betrayed us? Our very own Party.

18. Today
My house went on the market for sale. My last piece of property. As soon as it sells, if it sells, we are leaving the country. I put it on hold last year because I was hoping all the people telling me Obama was okay - were right... and hoped I was wrong.

I was right, sadly. Obama is a corporatist. Now the Dems line up in the same que for all to see. No shame.

21. I have 3 options
due to citizenship, 2 are good. Staying here is 4th but it's what I'd rather do if things pick up.
There are good expat boards for wherever you want to research.

We're likely going to a country we've been going to for many years. Unlike this country, you can't work there and take jobs away from citizens - so it's harder. Even if you're there legally you can't work.
