With the battle going on in Wisconsin, we wanted to ask: How many states have collective bargaining with public employees' unions? How many forbid it? Check out our map. It's pretty revealing.

6. Gee whiz!
That's what I would have imagined. However, I am a bit surprise at the black states that even make it permissible. I would have thought they all would be tan.

I'll add that all states should require collective bargaining and I strongly feel that we need a new push for unionization across the board. The main problem is that the Corporate Occupation uses intimidation and propaganda to poison those efforts for its own interests.

Our interests are usually not served or even considered by the dark, rising wave of corporatism that threatens to engulf us. It is really time for a large-scale realization of just what lies behind the corporate facade and their propaganda outlets comprised of the media facades is not going to be the way to find out. Peeling off that alluring, deceptive mask of narcotic illusions would do wonders for the whole world

10. Looks like Florida will be in their sites soon
With the corporate-parasite Rick Scott leading the way, it would be quite an accomplishment for this bunch of riff-raff.

Wisconsin is a testing ground for them. If they can score here, they would be emboldened to lash out at Florida next.

Much of it is the old Confederacy. This is no coincidence. The South will rise again.

16. My last comment on comparing the test scores with the
lack of collective bargaining in the highlighted states was answered in a comment in Krugman's column today:

"Only five states do not allow collective bargaining for educators. Those states and their ranking on ACT/SAT scores: South Carolina, 50th; North Carolina, 49th; Georgia, 48th; Texas, 47th; Virginia, 44th. Wisconsin, with its collective bargaining for teachers, is 2nd."

Thanks Jeremy in Chicago!
