When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a teacher
that was my one big dream.

That wasn't the hand fate dealt me, tho.

But what about the millions who were dealt that hand?

I just can't believe how teachers, of all fucking people, TEACHERS, are being targeted and savaged ly attacked.

Teachers challenge. Teachers mold. Teachers RULE!!!

And they do it because they love what they do. My fondest memories growing up are of teachers who were able to see beyond my bullshit whatever promise I possessed.

I would not have made it out of the ghetto if it had not been for caring, dedicated teachers.

And now they are one of several public servants being vilified as being greedy and unreasonable. These people (the Republican machine) have no fucking soul.

1. The demonetization of teachers is absolutely disgusting. The demonetization should
all be directed toward most of wall street and the banksters.

2. Part of me wants to just say to these people, which of you is going to educate your children?
If it is a traditional nuclear family, the father or the mother can quit their jobs and educate their own children full-time. Heh. See how much longer they complain about teachers THEN.

But of course, that's not fair to children, who are innocent. But in a world where all people get what they deserve, that's what would happen - a parent would need to sacrifice the extra income in order to educate their children. Or else work the night shift somewhere.

8. IMO many Americans are not literate enough to educate anyone let alone
their own children. Yep, agree, let them take a hit on income and try to stay at home and teach their kids. I shudder to think what most of them (RW) would be teaching them.

4. My grandfather spelled it out:

"They can take away everything you own, even the clothes on your back, but they can't take away what you know -- your education."

An educated population is a threat to tyrants and slavemasters.

EDIT: treat into threat -- sub-typo!

7. And librarians
yes, in America, hardworking people are vilified and demonized, and scum like Ronnie Raygun is cannonized. Yup.

9. The thing about it is
Teachers are just the first on the block---once they vilify them, they will move to the next professional group until we are ALL minimum wage workers.

10. When I was a little girl I didn't want to be a teacher but now I am
Well if teachers all went on strike parents would have to pay for nannies or something like that. However, I do think parents would be out marching with us! If we go on a mass work to rule throughout the country we still get paid. Solidarity?

11. I did too and I almost made it but
I had to quit college before I graduated to get a job to help my family. I feel like you CW that these professionals should be honored and rewarded for their place in our world looking after our children for chrissakes!

12. Teachers never have been people that are in it for the money
Not saying I understand that but it has been true of all the teachers I have known over the years.

14. The Republicans don't oppose all education...
...they just oppose the education of kids who can't afford private school.

I agree that it's completely ridiculous. It's becoming more and more clear why, here in Texas, teachers aren't allowed to voice any political opinions in the classroom.

15. My grandmother was a teacher.
A lifetime later (she taught in the early 1900s), she would still get choked up telling me about the students she tried to help, the successes and the failures. *sigh* As for my own teachers, I have such fond memories of so many of them, too. They saw through my bullshit, recognized what I had to offer, and it couldn't always have been easy... LOL. Teachers really do rock. O8)

16. I was thinking of retraining as a teacher
because that had always been a passion of mine. I used to make worksheets in the summer for my brothers and teach in our clubhouse. But given the current climate, I'm not going to accrue a bunch of new debt to face such disdain and uncertainty.

I think it already had been difficult to attract top talent into teaching. Now it will be impossible. But an uneducated, uninformed populace is the GOP's best friend.
