My reply to RW'er tonight on FB (He said unions were bleeding us dry):
(he is a huge beck fan btw....)

This shocks me coming from you - people are themselves 'companies' that negotiate wages (prices) and seek to profit (like corporations). Are you upset with the profits made by companies and how they bleed people dry (by selling smaller products at the same price, getting tax breaks, etc)?

Unions negotiate on the behalf of it's members to get the best PRICE for the services/goods that their 'companies' offer. They, the people in the unions, are wanting to make a profit too.

Is it ok when big corporations suck us dry? When they remove jobs from here to China and Mexico because they have zero allegiance to the US and care about ONLY profit? Why would anyone be upset at individuals doing the same to level the playing field?

Many of those investors (like Saudi Arabia, who owns a nice stake in Fox news) don't care at all about the US or it's people and will bleed this country dry of the dollar. At least workers here spend their money here. Why is it that when they want a fair share of the profits it is bad, but when an investor seeks to gain a higher percent of the profits and moves jobs over seas we applaud them (even when it hurts your fellow citizens)?

Are you willing to take a huge cut in your pay so that some rich person in a foreign country that owns stock in your company can have more money? If not - then you are one of those laborers who just wants what you are worth and a fair share of what you are producing. Why is that seen as bad when a worker does it and not when some rich investor does it?

4. What does this guy do for a living?
If he enjoys his five day work week and safety standards on the job, he should thank union workers in America. If he has any sort of pension he should thank union workers.

9. Nope. But I am sure it will be something like:
Edited on Thu Feb-17-11 08:49 PM by The Straight Story
"Well, the unions drove jobs overseas" etc and so on. We do battle almost every night.

We were on the chess team in HS together, and he was not very good back then at the game :)

From last night:

He posted: (on Egypt)Nothing to see here, folks. It's all just the spread of a "peaceful democratic uprising" in the mid-east. What's our response?

I replied:
"ok, what would you suggest our response be? Bomb them like we did Iraq (who posed no threat to us and had no wmd)? What is the biggest threat to the health and well being of people here in the US? What is going on half a world away or health care? And do we want to spend hundreds of billions more on defense to save lives here from Egypt and other nations when we already have enough nukes to wipe out anyone?

Interested in saving american lives? Than fight the problems that are most pressing here at home.

Seriously - what nation on earth really poses a threat to us?"

His reply:
"we have been over this again and again. When you move on from the fantasy of liberal talking points and into a fact based reality, maybe we will have an honest discussion."

10. Conservatives always think they have the handle on "reality"
I've noticed this over and over again. Yet, most of them are woefully ignorant of many aspects of Life - how the government works, the world, the complexities of living. Good luck with him.

11. We go way back, so I try to be patient
But most of the stuff he posts is from beck and rush. And when he cannot argue back with facts, he just ignores me or attacks me.

Par for the course for the RW'ers.

12. Yes.
Another phrase they seem to like is, "the real world". I once asked one guy - what is the real world? We all exist in the real world, right? Huh?! he couldn't answer me. When you start to deconstruct their bull, they back off quick.

23. Don't we all have someone like that in our lives ?
I have several. They are fun - like children but with more hair and less sense.Usually when they shoot back the "real world" or "liberal talking points" bs, I've started responding with this...

... "yah - that's what I thought. You got nothing." For some reason that really seems to get them going. I think it's because they know they have nothing and there fear is that anyone figures out and reveals that. It's great fun and sometimes it gets them so pissed off or off balance that they actually open their ears.

as in the case with this one. As soon as they drop the topic like that, it's victory :)

8. The banksters on Wall Street, the billionaire boys club,
the Enron gangsters... two wars started by Bush... the corporations who know no allegiance... THEY are the one who have bled our country dry.

They have all that money, our countries lifeblood, hoardingit in their coffers.

20. Great response.
So according to your buddy only CEOs and big investors have a right to try to improve their personal finances. Working slobs are greedy for wanting a much smaller slice of the pie? One wants millions for themselves, the other wants a fraction of a percent of that amount, and the worker is greedy?

21. That's a fantastic rejoinder
You could add that well paid workers have also been the best consumers. Ford understood that when he paid his car assembly workers a good salary. He explained to the lead brained that they were his best customers.
