Maybe issues like this, where important events get little or no coverage, will start to SHOCK more people into questioning the legitimacy of corporate media now?

Use traditional means, as you have done. Word of mouth, emails, social media, phone calls to friends, etc., are some of the options. Be sure to note in your communications the appalling lack of responsibility and acknowledgment from the corporate media itself.
