If you got an "Evil DUer" heart - that's actually a good thing

I'm reading posts here and there that "Evil DUer" is some sort of negative heart you can give folks and well I wanted to clear the air about it. I give out alot of hearts, mainly to those who don't have one and I always use "Evil DUer". It dawned on me though that the joke about "Evil DUers" is about 5-6 years old and for many DUers you may not have been here when it was all the rage.

Bush would use the phrase "Evil DOers" all the time, almost annoyingly so. Plus the right wing has always labeled us as 'Evil'. So the joke started that we were "Evil DUers" since it sounds the same as "Evil DOers". When the hearts started "Evil DUers" was added since we joked about it and wore the label as a badge of honor.

But if you weren't around DU back when this was all the rage, you might see "Evil DUer" and think "OMG WHO HATES MY GUTS SO MUCH TO CALL ME THIS???!!!". Please understand that NO ONE hates you. Skinner and the admins would never put hate hearts out for people to use - they are very sensitive to that kind of thing. "Evil DUer" exists because we use to call each other that as a joke back during the Bush years.

So if you got an "Evil DUer" heart smile - because it's a funny heart and it's our way of saying "You're one of us". Then again any heart has that meaning if you ask me.

Also, for those of you who have hearts to give, I ask that you do like I do, I find people who haven't gotten hearts and give them one, usually "Evil DUer" since I'm an old fart that still remembers the joke. I mean no ill-will to those who get them, if I could afford hundreds of hearts I'd make sure everyone gets one. So if you still have some to give - find a new DUer or perhaps an occassional poster who might not have one and welcome them to the fold with a heart.

And either they forgot about the joke or weren't around when it was the DU craze. I gave at least 100 of them away and I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to offend them. Evil DUer use to be a big compliment but I guess times they are a-changing.

I too remember the "Evil DOer" craze as Bush gave us so many gaffs to joke upon.

I know I seem very conservative at times for a Democrat, but I'm a "Life Long Democrat" none the less. I also have some very progressive views as well, so I hope that makes me "Middle of the Road Democrat". If you think my views are not in line - then feel free to ask. I have no problem explaining them, defending them, changing them through enlightenment, nor advocating them

I've been around since summer of 2004, but I still wasn't sure whether the heart was a good thing or a slap, especially since whoever gave it to me could easily have thought it was intended to be used as a slap and therefore could have chosen to give me that one for that reason.

It's hard to know the intent of the giver for sure, but I never took it as a compliment, and I am not clueless to the fact that there are some people here who really do not like me. It feels like a potshot from a detractor. Like I was just voted "most likely to be a troll"

I also don't think hearts should be handed out like Barney would hand them out. When I give a heart, it means something, and when I get a heart I would rather have it mean something. Not just "here's a random schlub who doesn't have a heart or very many hearts so I am gonna give him one even though I don't have any idea who he/she is, but feel that everybody should have some hearts".

I would rather have it mean something more like "I am gonna give a heart to hfojvt, because he's all right. He's not always right, and I don't always like what he writes, but there's something about him that I like." Whatever that something is.

I do, however, try to be an equalizer. There are lots of DUers that I like. Like yourself, but I generally do not ever give you a heart, because when I check, you already have many. I don't generally try to deliver more coals to Newcastle. I look for people that I like who don't have very many hearts and give them one more. They may be gone, but they are not forgotten. But I also happened upon somebody who I had never noticed before, and she mentioned that she had, or was working on a PhD. And she had no hearts. So I shot her one, because I think higher education is way cool. I philos the logos.

I'm sorry you have that feeling though about the Evil DUer. Maybe Skinner should retire it next year because no one should give out a heart with bad intention. That's just not the DU way.

As for my way of giving it out that's just me. I was the schlub in elementary school that would fine just 1 or 2 valentines in her basket so for me, I want to know everyone is an important part of DU no matter who they are or how often they post. However, my way isn't necessary the best way - it's just what makes me smile.
