Scientists find men's TV remotes much dirtier than women's remotes
Edited on Thu Feb-17-11 12:25 PM by JohnyCanuck
Bachelor pads 15 times dirtier than bachelorette pads

Dr. Charles Gerba has seen dirty.

As a University of Arizona microbiologist, Gerba has investigated germs and bacteria for years.

But even he was taken aback by his study’s findings on the cleanliness of bachelor and bachelorette pads.

After surveying 30 bachelors and 30 bachelorettes between the ages of 20 and 40 throughout Texas, Arizona, California and Colorado, Gerba and his team found that bachelor pads are 15 times dirtier than their female equivalent — bachelorette pads.

Samples were taken from the participants’ doorknobs, TV remote controls, coffee tables and night stands.

“I was surprised with how bad they were,” Gerba says.

The dirtiest thing the Clorox-sponsored survey found in a bachelor’s pad? His TV remote control, the scientist says.

“It’s 1,000 times dirtier than a woman’s remote control,” he says, with a chuckle.

The handy device is caked with crud and germs, making it a perfect host for harbouring the bad kind of bacteria.

4. Ah, scientific studies at their best.
Small sample size covering a wide demographic range (by age and location) sponsored by a corporation with a vested interest and telling us information that we basically already know (men are, in general, dirtier than women). Other than specific metrics ("15 times", "1000 times" dirtier) there doesn't seem to be much value in this, and I'm glad it wasn't taxpayer funded.

I got one on a study on Single Men's bathrooms vs single women.

$$$$$$$$$$$

I can't imagine what the results will be, but Clorox will clean both.

10. Could that be why so many men seem to have stronger immune systems?
I'm not being facetious here. Our germ-phobic culture has stunted the development of immunities in younger generations. Using anti-bac soap ALL the time will do that.

Women..I guess they are just scared to touch anything so everything just ends up on the floor, back of toliet,
Peeing when "squatting" over the toilet, yeah some people don't have that down very well :eyes:

16. Thanks for making my point..
yes, women spend more time in there, and have more things to 'um, take care of.

That doesn't excuse used pads stuck to the bottom of the tile wall...

17. When the numbers of bacteria are already in the billions
a 1000 fold change isn't that big of deal. A billion bacteria, a trillion, meh.

I'd be more curious to know how many of those are actually potential disease causing agents. Bacteria are everywhere. You can't really escape them.
