3. Other stole from the rich and didn't go to jail either. Lehman the weekend before they went under,

and there are other institutions where both rich and not so rich got screwed, and their antagonists did not go to jail. This may be a feel good rationalization, but a lot of wealthy people got hurt big time in this whole financial mess, and the institutions where they had their assets, which were incidently rated as AAA by S&P and fitch will be fortunate if they get pennies on their dollar when the litigation is finally over.

As an aside there are charities who had money invested with madoff who also got hurt, and some of those "rich" people, lost their entire savings, and now have nothing, so they can no longer be consider wealthy
