As a business practice, don't you have to spend money to earn money?
So I heard a great motivator speak. He took suggestions from the people who worked at the factory. He took careful notes.

Later we spoke about that. Since I was the new kid on the block he asked me if there was something that needed improvement. I said "Yes, sir. You see those conveyor belts over there?"

"You mean the ones set to US standards?"

"Yes, sir. The people here are about five inches shorter. I do believe by lowering them about three to four inches it will be much more comfortable for the inspectors to view products and the boxers to unload the ware."

"Great idea."

And so it began. An almost left for dead business with antiquated machines.

But he said let's see what happens when the people know we care about them. Let's see what happens when they take pride in their work.

And so armed with paint, brushes, brooms and a few wrenches, the huge production plant began to change its appearance noticeably.

Then came the open door to former and/or disgruntled clients to review the plant and its products.

Bosses began to take on a better attitude. Production levels soared. The plant began to regain its former status. Money was flowing and hiring was booming.

I know. I was there. I was a technical translator and involved in almost every aspect of the rebuild.

But in today's world what I see is:

They throw money at businesses and wealthy who will simply stockpile it. They feel no pressure as they get these bailouts to repaint anything. And even if the wealthy were still taxed at 90+% as when Ike was President, they would still get their money. That's right. They would still get their money. Because more money in the hands of more people means those people can afford to be picky as to what they buy. Folks who provide them with affordable quality (Not today's price gouging Orwellian double talk.) will be rewarded as more and more people will want what they have.

The pirates, who dump junk on America, would suffer horribly as folks would not want their stuff.

And more money and more purchases means the economy will multiply that money more times over creating even more jobs.

It has really been since Reagan this notion of throwing money at the rich and several governments full of spend and run from responsibility conservatives that has brought us to the brink.

1. Yes, you spend money to make money but they would rather spend
taxpayers money than their own. Why not? It's free.
As a business owner I could never understand the logic of, for example, giving tax cuts to induce spending on R&D. If that company wasn't given the tax breaks they would still have to spend money (their own) on R&D if they want to stay in business. Simple as that but they are not dumb. If they can convince a politician to send more money their way then they will. In business if you are not moving forward you are dying so it's in their own interest to invest.
