Budget Demagoguery
http://www.dylanratigan.com/2011/02/14/budget-demagoguery/

The annual exercise in obfuscation begins-the President has tabled his 2012 budget and the Congressional Republicans are responding. Neither party is serious about cutting spending.

The president’s budget show a $1.6 trillion deficit for 2012, and serves up new “investments” in education, transportation and R&D, while offering to slice less than $100 billion mostly from domestic discretionary spending.

House Republicans, for their part, are squabbling among themselves about cuts in the same range, as both sides really focus on only 15 percent of the budget-discretionary spending, excluding security and defense.

Democrats will stubbornly argue the economic recovery will collapse if the deficit is cut by any more than $100 billion, and Republicans will offer to privatize Medicaid and Medicare, as if vouchers and private spending accounts will help the nation’s poor and elderly obtain lower drug and hospital rates than can the government.

3. His ten year cuts are only double the Interest we pay for our National Debt for one year
Edited on Mon Feb-14-11 11:24 AM by Bandit
There is simply No Way cuts in spending alone can create a surplus and with no surplus the Debt and Interest on it will continue to grow until it is completely unsustainable if it isn't already. Right now we are paying over a half trillion dollars on interest alone. Almost two thirds of our complete Defense Budget. and growing rapidly. No one wants to address that fact though.
