Multiculturalism? Voice of Russia: Multiculturalism destructive for the western civilization
http://english.ruvr.ru/2011/02/14/44290463.html

I am absolutely sure that the multiculturalism is one of the factors that are destructive for the western civilization, along with the, say, political correctness, aggressive secularism and some other things. Multiculturalism is the purely artificial construction which was done with good intentions, but unfortunately it turned out to be on the contrary. The multiculturalism is something that destroys the fundamentals of the western civilization, and I think the western civilization conservation should be our priority, we are living in this civilization, and we cannot permit to destroy it right before our eyes.

I want to talk about bans and controls in building mosques, and holding prayers that are heard kilometers outside of the mosque. What can you say about this?

I am awfully sorry to say that this strange trend spread out even to Russia. I was really shocked when on the 16th of November, that’s one of the Muslim holidays, Kurban-Bairam, so for the first time in my life, I saw the whole streets of Moscow around their mosques, a couple of blocks from the mosques, they were covered with the people, all of a sudden, you know, that was done deliberately. It was not there last year; it was not there 5 years ago. All of a sudden they decided: “We have to show them our strength”, and it was really quite a show. You can see those pictures in the Internet, they are quite frightening things. They are in the offensive. I am sure about it. They are not going to abide to our rules, but they say: “You follow our rules, we would like to do this, and we will do this”. I cannot support this policy. I think this should be done in accordance with the law and traditions of this particular host country, either it is Russia, or Germany, or England, or France.

While modern day Russia is not known for its openness, I'll give them credit for consistency with what this guy is preaching. We were in St Petersburg and Moscow in November. Great cities, wonderful history, but they were the two "whitest" cities I have ever been in. From what we saw and statistics I have seen, Russia is not exactly welcoming to immigrants, minorities or other cultures so it's not a surprise that they would hope (and possibly really believe) that multiculturalism elsewhere has failed.
-----------------------------------
I found some more from this Russian professor. He wrote the following after Obama's election.

http://www.america-russia.net/eng/face/197169847

Now for the “bad news”. It also has its own name – The President Barack Hussein Obama. The following very personal notes are completely devoted to the justification of that statement.... Let me remind you one of my previous publications on this very site (“God save McCain!”). ... In studying the histories of passed civilizations it’s pretty hard to pinpoint the exact date of the bifurcation – it could be done only with certain approximation. But in this particular case it could be indicated with the greatest possible precision – November 4, 2008. To me, after that day the only way for America is down, down and down. The only question remains how fast this process of degradation could be, i.e. exactly how long this phase-3 would last.

Being a long-time professional researcher of postsecondary education, I hate to see the once perfect quality-oriented self-regulated system of American higher education, which I used to praise and exemplified in my scientific publications, now eroding and degrading with the twisted “programs” like “affirmative action” and “cultural sensitivity”. The Humanities departments of the universities and colleges there are now ridden and practically terrorized by liberals and leftists who instead of seeking the truth and facing reality are aggressively prophesying and pursuing “political correctness”, “egalitarism”, “relativism”, “secularism”, “gay-lesbianism” and other “-isms” just as senseless and far-fetched.

But now, as we learn, the “white Caucasians” - especially after deducting from their numbers the homosexuals, feminists and other pseudo-intellectuals as well as the immature youth brought up by their belligerent PC mentors – are becoming in the US a near minority. While the colored people of different shapes and shades came out as a prevailing majority of the electorate. I remember that horrifying TV picture of the line of voters in Chicago – it looked to me exactly like a line for the welfare checks. For them “the change we need” will definitely be for the better. But almost everybody forgot somehow that the verb “change” has a double meaning; it could be just as well the “change” for worse too. Summing up all the dynamics of “changes” I witnessed in America for the last 40 years and forecasting the future by extrapolating such evidently revealed existing trends, with the greatest pain I can ascertain that the latter alternative - “change for worse” - is much, much more probable.

On the next day after elections a correspondent from one of the Moscow radio stations called me asking for my comments on the elections outcome. In turn, I inquired him first: how he wants me to respond – politically correct or truthfully? He was baffled a little, but said: “could you really do it both ways?” I said, sure, it’s easy. The PC answer could be very short and just as shallow: “we do respect the political choice of the laborious and talented people of America”. But like with every PC statement it’s a sheer lie. Since the whole point is that the overwhelming majority of the “laborious and talented” voted against Obama. They are the hard-working professionals, relying entirely on their professionalism, experience and dedication. They do not need any government crotches of any kind – they represent the backbone of American economy. They are the real core of America, who made it great and once prosperous country. “Change you needed”? - change you got. The question is who will benefit from it.

2. i found it to have a huge schism between the generations
there's hope to be had there. I mer lovely people there, but you could see the difference in many of the older people who had grown up in such a closed and repressed place. No more of a shithole than parts of the US I have been to.

4. I found that funny, too.
Back during the communist days, Russian leaders used to talk about "western decadence" and the superiority of their civilization. In the light of this comment, it appears that they were talking about the changes in America since the 1960's.

5. In the pre-communist days there was also a general sense of antipathy toward the West.
All that Tsar and Autocrat of all Russia in Moscow, the third Rome, kind of stuff.

6. What a vile man
Though one should note that even your average far-right, ultra-nationalist, anti-secularist, xenophobic, homophobic borderline fascist can have SOME limits. Here's one thing that Gontarev wrote in 2008:

'I am not joking. I sincerely and wholeheartedly pray for John McCain’s health and wellbeing - especially if he is elected the next President of The United States. If – God forbid! – anything dreadful happens to President McCain… I’ve got horrible cramps in my stomach and the frightening shivers along my spine thinking what could happen to the world when the eventual McCain’s Vice-president would walk into the Oval Office. God, please, please save President McCain. '

Apart from that one item - well, there do seem to be a lot of creepy-crawlies coming out from under their rocks right at the moment!

7. Good point. You do have to give him credit for understanding how incompetent Palin is.
One small ray of intelligence from a man who lives his life under a rock. :)
