A call to action: Time to reboot Valentine's Day
Here's a worthwhile new social media effort.

I want all my readers to hear first. This Monday, Valentine’s Day, is going to be rebooted as Generosity Day: one day of sharing love with everyone, of being generous to everyone, to see how it feels and to practice saying “Yes.” Let’s make the day about love, action and human connection – because we can do better than smarmy greeting cards, overpriced roses, and stressed-out couples trying to create romantic meals on the fly.

Examples of great things to do on #generosityday:

* Give money to….a street musician, a homeless person, your favorite charity
* Take old clothes from your closet and give them to goodwill
* Leave a $5 tip for a $2 coffee
* Introduce yourself to someone you see every day but have never said hello to
* Bring in lunch for your co-workers
* Give someone a compliment

So, please join me in spreading the message and spreading the love.

2. I don't have a Twitter account
but I did post it on my Facebook page.

Cool story on how it got started. It will be interesting to see how fast it goes viral.

3. Looking at grocery fliers it seems obscene
Lobster tail,chocolate dipped strawberries,costly bouquets,champagne etc at a time when many have little to eat,living who knows where with a shaky future. Now is not the time for pampering those who already have but rather time to help those who have little or nothing at all. One could feed quite a few with practical groceries that get taken to the food pantry rather then a fancy dinner for two.

10. I never went that crazy even when I did have money
and if you feel like you need to do something for a loved one, there's no reason why you can't do that and be generous with other people.

As for me, I'll be buying my box of chocolates on Feb. 15 for 50% off. :)

9. Or even a smile or kind word will do
that's about all I have to spare these days, but it's amazing how some people light up when you really see them.

8. I like this idea.
I've often said that it was ironic that the International Day of Love was arguably the day when there were the MOST rude people out -- even moreso than Christmas. Generosity instead of the commercialized 'Love' would make it a much less stressful day, spend less, and accomplish more.

:thumbsup:

13. Had to look that up. I think I'll pass
The festival began with the sacrifice by the Luperci (or the flamen dialis) of two male goats and a dog.<7> Next two young patrician Luperci were led to the altar, to be anointed on their foreheads with the sacrificial blood, which was wiped off the bloody knife with wool soaked in milk, after which they were expected to smile and laugh.

The sacrificial feast followed, after which the Luperci cut thongs from the skins of the victims, which were called Februa, dressed themselves in the skins of the sacrificed goats, in imitation of Lupercus, and ran round the walls of the old Palatine city, the line of which was marked with stones, with the thongs in their hands in two bands, striking the people who crowded near. Girls and young women would line up on their route to receive lashes from these whips.

Love this idea--I'm newly single and V-Day is downright painful; this is a fantastic idea and I'm honoring and spreading it!

15. Thank you
I'm really not into the day either, but this put a great twist on it for me.

Great to see you as well. Hope you felt or gave the love today in some small way.
