If you haven't done so, Please attach your name to this form letter to protect your social security!
This is very important and I hope we ALL take the minute it takes to select one of the letters the 'National Committee To Preserve Social Security & Medicare' wrote, and simply attach your name to it! If you did already, thank you!

Go to http://capwiz.com/ncpssm2/home/

To choose from these action alerts you can just add your name to and they'll send an email for you to all the local papers you choose!

* Don’t Balance the Budget with Social Security Cuts
* Social Security Didn't Cause our Budget Mess
* Don't Raise the Social Security Retirement Age
* Seniors Need COLA Relief
* Social Security Didn’t Cause Our Budget Mess – Letter to the Editor

By ourselves we have trouble being heard - but, together we can make a difference.

You can replace their message with your own if you wish, but, please take action. I sent this to my entire email list which includes several Republicans I know in other states. I know they simply don't understand what is being done with their money. Please forward to your email list! Also, you can always contact your Congressperson - https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

16. Thank You for doing that, Pip! Who knows how many will sign b/c of that, and
I am preparing an email to a bunch of old contacts from another account. I hope every big paper in the country gets dozens of emails from people who do care about what the rich are trying to do with our Social Security!

We will NOT let Saruman win! Oh, got carried away there! (LOTR is my fave, even above Star Wars & Chronicles of Narnia)

Happy Valentine's Day!

5. Done. Social Security has nothing to do with the deficit. Nothing.
The Repukes want control. And that's all they want.

8. Here's my email to my congressman:
I'm writing to voice my anger at even the POSSIBILITY of cuts to Social Security. SS is not causing our national debt problem - all our illegal wars are! Bring our troops home, cut the number of bases in foreign countries and you'll save more than enough to reduce and eliminate our deficit. If our government would stop borrowing from SS, it would have a huge surplus. LEAVE IT ALONE, or pay the price at the polls the next time you're up for re-election. Touching SS will bring ALL of us out into the streets with protests that will make Egypt look mild. This is nuts to even consider it. You give more tax cuts to the rich, and go after seniors, the disabled and the poor. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU.

I know some or even many of you may disagree with my points, but it's how I feel.

14. May I ask
where the money to keep Social Security going is going to come from?

Simply saying, "Don't cut me," is not going to be too persuasive to congresscritters upset that there is no more FICA surplus to fund tax breaks and spending increases.

If we want results, we've got to talk about alternative solutions. I list a few here:

17. I fully support the future payments going into a 'lockbox', and the scale based on type of work one
performs is interesting. I know if they focus on doing the right thing regarding SS, we won't have problems with it. I liked reading your linked post. Thanks.
And, my goodness, if I had my way the tax rate for the wealthiest would go back up, but that's for a host of other reasons. I feel this country has for too long let the billionaires off the hook. What was the top progressive tax rate back 40 years ago? Let's take it back there.

18. Thank you for your observations
If we have excess FICA taxes (if we ever get to that situation again) going simply to buy fully negotiable Treasury securities, the kind that foreign investors buy, that have no restrictions on when they can be re-sold on the open markets, then Social Security will be on the road to greater soundness.

If there are no more trust fund raids, then taxes on the wealthy must go up as a consequence, especially if we had a balanced budget amendment. I can live with the rates that were in place at the end of Bill Clinton's term, the last time we ran a budget surplus. We're going to need to have a string of a few decades worth of such surplusses to pay back the massive national debt.
