for spelling,punctuation and content.Thank you,as always

There is a trend in America that continues to go unaddressed. One you never hear of.One people close their eyes to.There are homeless veterans on the
street every night.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has recently released a very elaborate report disclosing many facts about homeless veterans.

http://www.hudhre.info/documents/2009AHARVeteransReport.pdf

-An estimated 136,334 veterans spent at least one night in an emergency shelter or transitional housing program between October 1, 2008 and September
30, 2009. This accounts for 1 of every 168 veterans in the U.S. or 1 out of every 10 veterans living in poverty.

-Homeless veterans are most often white men, between the ages of 31 and 50 years, with a disability, and alone in shelter.

-Female veterans and young veterans are at high risk of becoming homeless, and both groups are growing within the overall veteran population.

-Almost half of homeless veterans on a given night were located in four states: California, Florida, Texas, and New York. Only 28 percent of
all veterans were located in those same four states.

With that in mind, these are the resources that veterans in danger of becoming homeless can use.

-The VA National Call Center For Homeless Veterans 1-877-4AID VET (1-877-424-3838).
-The Texas HUDVET Assistance Line (214) 467-1864 -Dallas or Tammy.Wood4@va.gov
-The Department of Labor VETS program (214) 767-4987 or clay.bernadette@dol.gov
-The VLB Texas State Veterans Homes (800)252-VETS (8387)
-Disabled American Veterans (214) 857-1119

As a reminder-most public libraries have internet access.Online, you can find much more information here:

I want veterans to know that we are in this together.
We've got your backs..and your families' backs,too.
You are not forgotten.
