2011 Volkswagen Touareg Gold Edition

There’s only one way to introduce a special edition model to the Middle East and Arab regions: bring out a Gold edition. It’s not like the region is running short of gold supplies, so that’s exactly what Volkswagen has done. Introducing the Volkswagen Touareg Gold Edition.

The car was unveiled at the Qatar show earlier this week. It is one of the most ostentatious Touaregs we’ve ever seen. So what of it is gold? First, most noticeably, the wheels, they’re 22-inch in size and plated in 24-carat gold, as are the roof rails, window frames and sill strips.

The front grille is also done in 24-carat gold plating as are various bits and trimmings around the rear of the car, including the badges and the protective tailgate scuff plate.

Inside the car is equally rich, a bit like a United Emirates’ private jet interior. Just about every major edge, vent and prominent contour is covered in gold.

Other details of the special edition include a 265kW engine and every conceivable option available in the Touareg range.

Price? “Priceless”, Volkswagen says. The company also says it is a normal Touareg that could ‘drive around the world’. Although, Volkwagen suggests that you keep the car stored in a secure area.

5. As long as I don't have to give up my driver I'll be OK.

And I sure hope I don't have to give up the gold trim in our "shared" sacrifice.

:)

4. You know, if I ever get filthy rich, I will never, ever get a gold edition anything
I'm sorry, but having cars with gold accents, houses with gold fixtures, rooms with gold trimming, it's just too terribly tacky.

If you want to get a car that says you're obnoxiously wealthy, go out and get something like a '36 Packard V-12 convertible, preferably in Champagne and White. But don't go plating everything you own in gold.

9. No, there are several dozen different cars in this country,
They come up regularly on the sale circuit, currently fetching approximately $300,000.

Beautiful car, absolutely beautiful if you like that sort of thing.

7. vomit
how repulsively ugly.

it's like making lamp shades from the skin of dead people to market something like this among so much poverty.

10. Seriously?...
A stupidly ostentatious car is like making lamp shades from the skin of dead people?

You might want to recalibrate your outrage-meter.

11. when people set themselves on fire because of the horrific treatment they receive
when women are beaten in the streets without provocation (not that I could think of a valid one offhand). When the House of Saud makes a deal with the Wahabbists to maintain power, stoning people for "moral crimes" the ruling class engages in with impunity...

when one sector of the population of nation after nation lives in luxury while others are treated like slaves...

that's provocation enough for me.

the car is simply the symbol for the rot that is the monied and thinks itself elite class and why the entire world would be better off without them - in every nation in this world.

ymmv
